If you’ve been asking about the toughest workout in Colorado Springs... this is it,
The Incline sits just above Manitou Springs, climbing the east side of Mount Manitou-an old railway that washed out in a 1990 rockslide and got a second life as one of the gnarliest stair workouts in the country
The stats:
Location: Manitou Springs, off Ruxton Ave, right next
to the Barr Trail
Elevation gain: right around 2,000 feet
Steps: 2,768 stairs of all different sizes
Distance: under a mile up, with grades averaging
45% and hitting 68% in spots
Time: most people take 1-2.5 hours up; you’ll want another hour (give or take) to come down via Barr Trail #manitouincline #visitcoloradosprings #manitousprings #coloradohiking #pikespeak

Moments of joy and countless minutes spent in nature during an emotionally challenging year ❤️‍🩹

I was in a bit of a sentimental and nostalgic mood tonight while clearing space on my phone (thanks to the infamous “iCloud storage full” warning 😅)

Looking back through these videos reminded me how much beauty, adventure, movement, and connection this year has held, even through the difficult moments.

Thank you to everyone who shared these hikes, travels, dances, and memories with me!🕺🏔️☀️🏃‍♀️🌊🩵👯‍♀️

Also, “Begged” from @oliviarodrigo new album “You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love” has been on repeat. The lyrics are so poetic and resonate with me on a deeply emotional level🥹🎶

Medjrool’n over my hot date!🤤🔥 🏕
•
•
Want a new deliciously healthy sweet campfire treat? Try roasting a medjool date (remember to remove the pit first☝🏼) over the fire, stuffing it with either tahini (sesame paste) or any nut butter, and topping it with granola or a small piece of chocolate 🍫 I used tahini, peanut butter, and almond butter KIND granola😋 Melts in your mouth! Top things off with a batch of hot golden milk (we used soy milk, cinnamon sticks, star anise, ginger, turmeric, stevia)🥛💛

Do you want to run faster, traverse great distances, scramble up steep, rocky terrain, and do all of the above while minimizing joint pain and maximizing recovery? 🏃🏻‍♀️🥾 ⛰ 🧘🏽‍♀️
•
If your answer is “yes!”, then please join me in the first class of a three part Pilates series I am creating for runners and hikers! Search for “Kira Kinesis” on YouTube, and you’ll find the class under my “Nature-Based Pilates Flows” playlist🙂
•
This Pilates Flow focuses on increasing mobility in all of the major joints, activating the core, unilaterally training the lower body, and releasing the muscles around the hips and pelvis. Pilates is a phenomenal modality of cross-training because it is low-impact and strengthens the essential stabilizing muscles of the ankles, hips, back, abdominals, and shoulders throughout their full ranges of motion. Strengthening and relieving tension in these muscles groups is key to obtaining proper joint alignment, which tends to suffer when runners and hikers become fatigued. Running places the body’s joints under significant and repetitive impact in the sagittal plane of motion (AKA moving forwards and backwards). Pilates helps to prevent overuse pain patterns, chronically tight hip flexors, and stress injuries that might occur if running were practiced alone in high volumes. In addition, Pilates will help improve your running and hiking gait, muscular efficiency, and recovery🤗

First trip to Yosemite was quite a treat! Due to COVID-19, the park had minimal crowds and we were able to fit a lot into a one night trip. We hiked to Vernal and Nevada falls, swam in the Merced River, visited Glacier Point, and ended our trip with a short and strenuous hike up to Sentinel Dome! Came home and immediately left for a two night backpacking trip to Beyer’s Lake 🏕 Four consecutive days of mountainous hiking has left me craving Pilates, stretching, and foam rolling🧘🏻‍♀️Good thing I get to sit and rest for a few days while I get caught up on my summer class! 📚
