PART 2 🪵 Calm Before the Storm

The hours before the event are essential to my process and an essential aspect of why our events are so unique. In part two, we give you a glimpse of those, sometimes frenetic, moments.

Event overview: I travel to Flora, Mississippi with my company @openfireco to produce a cinematic open fire dining experience at a historic Southern hunting lodge. In this video, we take you through a day in the life of making a large format open fire event.

Made in collaboration with alacruz_ and shot by our good friend @zachary_kanzler, this is the closest you'll get to the magic without actually going to an OFC Hang.

Hope you enjoy the peek behind the curtain and stay tuned for PART 3.

Check out the full video on YouTube at the link in bio.

Special thanks to @j.pick_ @mollybarronpickering @leisha.pickering for having us curate this event.

WELCOME LEIGHANN 🥩 The Open Fire Co family has a new member, and she’s like the quirky Aunt who you are slightly scared of but always takes you to do fun sh*t without your parents knowing.

Leighann Smith (@leighantichrist) has been dealing meat to us since the early days when we were just doing fundraisers and backyard gatherings. So this isn’t anything new. What’s different now is she has the time and energy to join and plan events to make us better, cooler and way more badass (see: badass porkchop tattoo).

Most of you know her already from Piece of Meat Butcher and Cochon. She has been featured in Eater and Food & Wine and her skills and attitude are the perfect complement to the rest of the team.

Now all we need for her is a title: Head Butcher? Meat Maestra? War-time Consigliere? … We’re open to suggestions in comments!

Follow 👉 @leighantichrist @pieceofmeatbutcher to keep track of her other pursuits. Everyone give her a big welcome!

Side note: Her presence will allow us to do smaller and more approachable events… (like if you need a small BBQ dinner and not a whole all-day hang experience). Hit us up.

Hey folks, we're excited to finally share this intrepid video behind our process and a closer look at why our events are so unique.

Founder and live fire chef @marksroncoli travels to Flora, Mississippi to produce a cinematic open fire dining experience at a historic Southern hunting lodge. We visit @bozemanmeatco to find the source of the meat for the event. And take you through a day in the life of making a large format open fire event.

Made in collaboration with @alacruz_ and shot by our good friend @zachary_kanzler, this is the closest you'll get to the magic without actually going to an OFC Hang.

Hope you enjoy the peek behind the curtain and check out the full video on YouTube at the link in our bio.

Last year was a year of parallels for me. In January, we had a terrorist attack (bad) and the biggest snowfall in a century (good) in New Orleans. Was the pendulum going to swing back and forth all year? Yes.

We lost Nora 🐈‍⬛ this year. Something I haven't completely come to terms with, my partner in crime for 16 years (very bad). But Jess got to spend a couple good years with her and we still traveled to four new countries this year (very good).

My finger is still crooked and my ankle got destroyed in soccer by an over-aggressive dudebro (pretty bad). But I also learned to play polo and it turns out I'm fairly good at it (pretty good).

These past couple years have been uncertain with the film industry and my past career (bad, hopefully getting better). Open Fire Co took off, got 10k followers and I fire cooked all over the world (great, hopefully getting better)!

All to say, if duality is something to believe in; you not only have to take the good with the bad. If there's no bad there's no good.

Here's the some of the Good: Wedding in Sicily; Last Dead Beans Parade and Disco Snails for Mardi Gras; US Open in NYC; Open Fire Co Field Trip out West; Riding Fast Horses; Changed my Nom de Plume to Honor my Nonna; Reconnected with Family; & am excited about 2026! 🫶
