On the note of more personal posts, I want to take a moment to discuss fashion! I want to give a huge thank you to the brand @dearmylovewhip_official in particular. I’ve been pretty vocal about it in recent years, but I experienced intense and rapid weight gain due to different medications side effects. It’s an unfortunate reality that many people with either mental or physical health conditions experience. As a femme presenting individual, this has always been a point of insecurity and shame. I like wearing dresses and feeling cute. I felt embarrassed that even my newest clothes didn’t fit. When you look good, you feel good. When you’re desperately going through your wardrobe and finding nothing feels good to wear anymore, it can cause anxiety and sadness. That was my reality for a long time. I’ve always wanted to explore “girlier” fashions. I was exposed to and suggested jirai kei specifically. I fell in love with the style immediately. As a larger sized person now though, I was afraid I wouldn’t find clothes that fit me.. That was just my reality. I had been interested in different styles before (lolita, street techwear, grunge, just to name a few) but was always led to disappointment when I couldn’t find clothing in my size. Even when I was ranging between US sizes 8-12, I found it difficult to find pieces I enjoyed. I felt it was impossible now that I fit into the plus sized category. Then I found Dear My Love Whip. They were the first plus size j-fashion brand that catered to both my preferred style AND size. Maybe it sounds silly to some, but I was genuinely so excited and relieved. I could actually dress the way I had dreamed of and FEEL good doing it. No squeezing in, no tailoring. Just actually FITTING for once. I wanted to share some photos of my favorite outfits! Some from public outings and some that have yet to be spotted irl. 👀 I wanted to share my experience with DML Whip as well in case anyone was in the position I was before. I highly recommend them!

A few of my favorite tea and pottery friends gathered @greenwichhousepottery yesterday for an invigorating morning making chawan (tea bowls) and talking tea. Nov 7 Tea at #littleislandnyc with @ashshem Not often do you find such a talented #chajin to have fun with. With the shifuku made by @studio_shifuku , I had two students of @adamsomu around me that day. It was windy and warm. The chasen (#teawhisk ) kept falling. So we came up with a strange solution. Making sure that the chasen was not too humid (using a movement from #uedasokoryu ) we rest it on the #shifuku. This shifuku is made of a thick and resistant fabric. I would not try this on siln. This is from no school I know of. I doubt it fits the traditional #chanoyu mindset, except that it acknowledges the situation and find an elegant (?) way to adapt. At least the #tea and #mugwort form @matchacha_seoul were excellent. Thanks @ashshem for the #meditation and great company 🙏🏼 #zenart #chado #respect #japaneseteaceremony

One of my students, Kanata Ueno, who had been an exchange student at NYU from Japan since last September, has returned to Japan🥲 He helped me with every tea ceremony and event. I have fond memories of many times staying up all night together to prepare the day before a tea ceremony😅 As a parting gift, I gave him a Chashaku(tea scoop) I had carved. There are messages from everyone in my tea class written around the Chashaku tube. He will graduate from a Japanese university this year and enter the workforce, so I named the Chashaku "Start Line. I hope he will never forget his Shoshin (original intention) and do his best to shine brightly in his future life as well. 🍵MY Tea Class🍵 We had our first tea ceremony class of the year. To celebrate the New Year, we all drank a special matcha called Obukucha 大福茶, which is a tea to wish for good health for the year. Also, the traditional sweets to celebrate the New Year, called Hanabira-mochi, were handmade by my friend @bubblyarakanakira !
