Khardungla Challenge Chapter 4

The Finish

I reached the blue mat and stopped , this moment deserved a pause before anything else. I bowed in front of the “I Love Leh” sign, then turned to the crowd and started waving. They were wild for every runner who crossed, and for someone drained after 72 kilometres, that noise became fuel enough to carry the last 400 metres stronger than I had any right to feel.
I’d walked this finish a thousand times in my head countless nights, before sleep, imagining exactly how it would go. I was certain I’d break down crying the moment I saw the line.
Instead, it felt like the start line all over again. Blank.

I slowed down deliberately. Right after the turn past the Masjid, I looked back waved, gave high-fives, refused to hurry toward the end. I didn’t want to cross yet. I wanted more of the crowd. I asked them to shout louder, and they did, all at once, like one voice. I could pick out my friends in that noise, loud and unmistakably happy to see me there. I stepped over the line not with euphoria, but with relief.

Bowed to the land of Ladakh.
Bowed to every person who cheered for a stranger like me.
Bowed to the sun, the air, the energy that carried me here.

I held up my planning sheet for the crowd one last cheer for the numbers that got me through. In recovery, I finally took off my shoes and found blisters the size of gooseberries on my left leg. The pain arrived all at once, and the medical team patched me up with quiet, practiced kindness. Then I was called on stage - medal, and the blue jacket reserved for a sub-10 finish.
Mr. Motup gave me a warm hug, asked about my time, checked on the blisters himself. Possibly the proudest piece of metal and cloth I’ve ever earned.

Race Day Photos 📸🏔️

42.2 KM | 5:55:24 ⏱️

Not the timing I was hoping for, and honestly, not completely satisfied with the result.

But the mountains have their own way of testing you. At this altitude, you learn to accept whatever the mountain gives you. 🏔️

Proud to have pushed through and crossed the finish line of my first marathon.

A special mention to @satyamraj.111 , with whom I did all my training for this marathon. From the long runs to the tough days, this journey wouldn’t have been the same without you. 🤝🏃‍♂️

Another race, another sub 2. The race really had everything - a solid finish on absolutely zero sleep, followed by a day that couldn’t have been better, with the best people. Legs were tired, but 100% worth it ✨
