I’m excited to share that I’ll be exhibiting in Visible Yet Unseen: Black Love, Disability, and Community Transformation at Assemble! 🖤

This exhibition feels especially meaningful to me because it brings together conversations around identity, disability, Blackness, love, and community, all things that have found their way into my work in different ways.

I’ll be showing Handle with Care alongside pieces from my Self Love Social Club collection and more!!

📍 Assemble
4824 Penn Ave, Pittsburgh, PA
🗓️ Opening Reception: Friday, October 2
⏰ 6–10 PM

The exhibition will be on view throughout October.

If you’re in Pittsburgh, come see the work, support the artists, and be part of the conversation. 🫶🏾

Okay Instagram, I’m turning 30. And for my 30th birthday, I wanted to do something BIG - but more importantly, something that could make a positive impact.

First things first: I’m a twin. My sister Catherine & I share a lot of the same interests and care deeply about a lot of the same things - animals, people, education & trying to leave the world a little better than we found it.

When we talk on the phone, we spend a lot of time talking about how shitty the world feels right now - and how much we wish we could do something about it.

And while we’re only two people, we both believe that one person can create a ripple effect. Doing good in your community, showing up for people, being kind; those little things can turn into something much bigger.

So, for our 30th birthday, we decided to put that belief to the test.

Our goal: raise $30,000 for our 30th.

We’re supporting three organizations doing the WORK to create the kind of future we want to live in:

🐾 @frankiesfriends.catrescue.pa : supporting animal rescue & working to end animal suffering
🎨 @assemblepgh : empowering young people through creativity, arts & technology education
💛 @rethreadedinc : creating opportunities for survivors of human trafficking to rebuild their lives

Each of these organizations means something special to us. They’re connected to our hometowns, our communities, work we’ve been part of & causes we genuinely care about.

$30K is an ambitious goal. We know that. But even if we don’t get all the way there, every dollar we raise is money going toward people doing meaningful work every single day.

So we’re going to try. ❤️

Swipe to learn more about each organization, and if you can, consider donating. Whether that’s $30 for our 30th, $5, $100, or whatever feels right. And if donating isn’t in the cards right now, sharing this fundraiser helps too.

Let’s see how big of a ripple we can make.

Do good. Be kind. Make art.

You’re officially invited! Join us for the opening of Visible Yet Unseen: Black Love, Disability, and Community Transformation this Friday, October 2, from 6–10 p.m. at @assemblepgh

I hope this exhibit gives you space to explore experiences and feelings you may recognize in yourself, discover perspectives beyond your own, and have meaningful conversations with others. Most of all, I hope it encourages you to advocate for yourself and others in spaces where you may not feel welcomed or understood.

We may also have special guests joining us to share their resources, along with fun activities for you to enjoy!

As you explore Unblurred: First Fridays, make your way to Assemble to meet the amazing artists and experience their work. I’d love to see you there!

As AI reshapes how we learn and create, what happens when we teach kids to make, experiment, fail and build instead of simply asking a machine for the answer?

HONDURAS & MEXICO

Have you read any of these?! I have to read all of the Honduran books, but Now I Surrender and Reservoir Bitches are two of my absolute favorites <3

I had the privilege of meeting Gloe through @assemblepgh and hearing her speak about her journey and art (she’s super badass you should check her page out @gloeone ). Gloe brings so much more to the world with her art to continue to bring life to her community in Chicago’s Southside and I was able to snag some ideas and wisdom from her to better support and show up for y’all!!

Do you have any books you would add to this list? Or pieces of art (an area where I’m excited to learn more about)

It's so important to be in community and share our deepest selves through art. When we nourish ourselves and each other we are stronger and more resilient. We are better equipped to choose joy. Joy is resistance.

Oh, yeah, what am I wearing? I'm in the Morrison's Center maxi dress and a Pitti Pat To Market Turban. The oven mitt design is The Susan's Party. All available at www.mmmmyes.com

Unicorn Palooza! 🦄🌈

Such a joyful night celebrating 15 years of Assemble and its mission to build confidence through making—bringing together art, technology, creativity and community in Garfield.

I’ve loved getting to know Assemble through our work in Garfield, and Mark and I were so happy to support this celebration alongside Mayor Corey O’Connor and my Mayor’s Office colleagues Will Allison and Corey Buckner.

Happy 15th, Assemble! Here’s to the next 15. 💫

I’d like to thank the Academy for my Unicorn Award from @assemblepgh in the category of Afrofuturist Activator. 🦄

Congratulations Assemble on your 15th Anniversary and thank you @ninabarbuto for your vision.

I am honored to continue the work of the PA CROWN Act so that young people - especially Black children - across this Commonwealth can see themselves in the future with no limits. 👑

Our children deserve to create, make, imagine, build and dream. 💭
