For people facing homelessness and asylum destitution, a safe place to sleep can be the first step towards rebuilding their lives.

Through our Community Fund, we recently awarded @assistsheffield £10,000 to support their vital work with people seeking sanctuary.

ASSIST provides safe accommodation, financial support, advocacy and casework, helping people move beyond crisis, build connections and work towards a more secure future.

As Jake Clarke from ASSIST Sheffield says:

“Once people can move beyond crisis and take their next steps, the benefits reach far beyond the individual.”

This funding will help ASSIST continue providing holistic support to people seeking sanctuary, helping them move towards a safe home, community and the freedom to thrive.

Thank you to Jake and the whole ASSIST Sheffield team for sharing the difference this funding will make 💜

Imagine being banned from working, relying on support to survive and then being taxed twice🤨!

📣Our call is clear: the Government should introduce the right to work for people seeking asylum, allowing people to support themselves and reducing the need to rely on asylum support while their claims are considered.

It doesn’t have to be this way. We can fix this.

✅If you stand with refugees and migrants, comment JUSTICE below. We’ll send you everything you need to call on your MP to oppose the Immigration and Asylum Bill.💪🏾

📢🔥 ROYAL HALLAMSHIRE HOSPITAL DEMONSTRATION - INTERNATIONAL DAY OF ACTION AGAINST PALANTIR ✊🪧

On the 1st October, as part of the #InternationalDayOfActionAgainstPalantir, patients, NHS workers, and activists across England are taking action to demand that our leaders add to the collective and growing voice calling for the government to end the NHS's contract with #Palantir.

Medact Sheffield and the No Palantir in the NHS South Yorkshire campaign are coordinating a number of actions throughout the day, including a demo outside of the front of the Royal Hallamshire Hospital for health workers and patients to attend.

We are demanding that our local trust and ICB executives explicitly #BackTheBreakClause and call upon NHS England and the UK Government to end Palantir's involvement in the NHS. Details about the demo are as follows:

📍Royal Hallamshire Hospital. Grassy verge where Beech Hill Road meets Glossop Road.
📅Thurs 1st October 4pm - 5.30pm

💌 Following the demonstration, there will also be an MP letter writing session at Raccoon Studios (4 Exchange St, S2 5TS) between 6.30pm and 8.30pm, where people can attend to design and write handwritten postcards and/or letters to send to their MPs demanding the same.

A 3-month deadline for the government to give notice on exercising the contract's break clause in February 2027 is due at some point around November; therefore, we are approaching a now-or-never crunch time for the campaign, needing our leaders to speak out now before it is too late!

Send us a message if you want to help out!

Head to the No Palantir Linktree (link in the bio ☝️) to find out more about the International Day of Action and Back the Break Clause Campaign.

See you there!

Love and solidarity

This Saturday, we'd love for you to join us for the official launch of the Dr Pious Nyandoro Campaign
📅 Saturday 12 September
🕚 11am–5pm (feel free to drop by for any amount of time!)
📍 SADACCA, 48 Wicker, Sheffield, S3 8JB
🔗 Link to register in bio

Rooted in Pious’s life, work, solidarity and memory and shaped by the recent and tragic passing of our beloved comrade and former RJN trustee, Professor Jason Arday, this campaign seeks to turn remembrance into collective action.

As we remember both Pious and Jason, we want to create space to reflect together on *Black grief, racialised dehumanisation, and the political conditions in which our communities live and experience loss.*

At the launch, we’ll share the campaign’s aims, introduce our living campaign blueprint, and invite those present to help shape where the work goes next.

Expect food, time to connect, movement building, a roundtable discussion, storytelling, and collective discussion of the campaign blueprint.

Any questions, drop us a message
In solidarity

Our most recent blog post features an intimate commemoration and reflection as we approach the first anniversary of the transitioning of our late Comrade, Dr Pious Nyandoro.

The piece reflects on his passing as a symptomatic failure of a system that continues to shape whose lives are seen as worthy of dignity, protection, and remembrance. It forces readers to ask questions such as: How has Europe succeeded in presenting itself as the global guardian of democracy and human rights while simultaneously operating one of the world's most repressive, hostile immigration regimes? In addition to asking readers to question whether we have become so institutionalised in the management of suffering that we no longer recognise the need to challenge the political systems that drive and perpetuate it?

Most pointedly, the blog calls on us to continue the work to which our Comrade Dr Nyandoro devoted his life: truth-telling, political education and collective resistance.

🎉We officially completed #5marathons5days for Mental Health, Solidarity and Justice, July 28th-August 1st 2026! People and community power held us through this incredible experience, traversing over 4 Ben Nevis' in height 🥾💫 Every step was resistance against the system that killed our late friend and comrade Dr Pious Nyandoro, who's anniversary nears. Rest in Power, 15/3/77~10/8/2025

🫂Thank you to every single person, organisation, venue and business who has donated and made this challenge possible. With your generosity, encouragement, logistical support and care, we were able to cross the finish line for our finale community meal at @sheffieldcityofsanctuary

🐕30 people and 2 dogs joined us to walk over a staggering 584.26 miles in solidarity with freedom seekers and the impact of the migration system on mental health, supported by 24 organisations. We shared Pious' story and those like him, raising awareness of the intentional cruelty of policies that harm migrants and confronted misinformation and propaganda against our migrant communities

🔗We are so close to our fundraising target, with an incredible nearly £9000 donated so far. Every share or donation no matter how small will help us smash our target, to help recover the community funds used for Pious' repatriation and funeral costs, commission a mural in his memory and support VVIDY, an organisation he co-founded. Follow the link in bio to find out more about the cause and our challenge💜

This challenge tested out physical and mental limits, but we walked for Pious, system change and hope👣follow to continue this journey for justice with us

Together, our power is limitless

In solidarity

A huge thank you to everyone at ASSIST Sheffield for taking the time to send us this lovely thank you message. 💙

Thanks to the incredible support of our members, we were delighted to donate £1,000 to ASSIST Sheffield this month.

ASSIST provides vital support to people seeking sanctuary who have been refused asylum and left destitute, offering accommodation, advocacy, information and access to essential services when they need it most.

Our donation will help fund essential cash payments, bus passes and advocacy support, helping people access services, stay connected with their community and improve their wellbeing during incredibly challenging times.

It’s only because of our members donating just £1 a week that we’re able to support amazing organisations like ASSIST and make a real difference across Sheffield.

Thank you again to everyone at ASSIST for the fantastic work you do, and to all of our members for making donations like this possible. 💙
