I did a thing. 💛

For a long time I carried my story quietly. Now I’m putting it on paper and sending it out into the world on purpose.

“Style With Intention” is my Speak Life Loud newsletter, and it holds a season full of firsts: speaking on stage, holding my published journal in my hands, and so many people who have poured into me.

If you’ve ever cheered me on, this one is for you too.

🥬New work: Simmer, created for Association House of Chicago. Melinda’s cooking is incredible and I felt so lucky to be in her kitchen with her sisters on the West Side. @assochouse is one of my favorite places in Chicago. I’m always wow’d by their staff and the work they do. This is my 6th film working with them and together we raised over 250k for programs after this premiered at their annual gala. Melinda cooked her greens for the audience, so they got to taste them at the event. I love my job so much. I’m working on the longer directors cut, it’s so hard to decide what stays when we have only a few minutes for our delivery.

Film stills from my most recent short documentary project for @assochouse called: "Simmer." It follows a woman on the West Side of Chicago as she tells the story of how a culinary program is helping her achieve a life long dream of becoming a chef. We talked all things soul food, greens, family and recipes. I am lucky to have clients who feel like home and Association House is one of those places. It's literally in my neighborhood. Every year I am wow'd by how their programs connect people to the opportunities. This was a DELICIOUS production. As a director, I want the audience (you) to feel like family, like you want to step into the frames and see what people are up to. I want you to be curious enough that you'll get involved. So when filming their culinary program, I wanted each frame to be filled with people first. The yummy food they make: The cherry on top. I'm working on a Directors Cut of this film that I'll be posting soon. Curious about Association House? There is a link in my bio to find out more and donate. Produced in collaboration with @figmedia. Second cam assist @code_man31.
