Happy National Day on Writing!

Thank you #NCTE Classroom Corridors for the invitation to write a letter to teachers of young writers.

I loved putting to words the necessity of opening spaces in our classrooms to cultivate the voices of our young writers through the intentional design of a curriculum that invites them to step into their power as writers, storytellers, and creators.

Writing is important, real writing, composing matters.

We must tell our stories, document this moment, and compose toward the world we all deserve - one where we are all free.

Read my letter, “Dear Fellow Educators and Storytellers: Bearing Witness to our Writers,” at the following link:

Last week I had the honor and privilege of discussing American Hagwon—an instant @nytimes bestseller—with the brilliant and incomparable @lee_minjin. The event was cohosted by my peoples @literaryarts and the good folks at @reserartscenter. American Hagwon is an extraordinary novel, one which taught me much about the significance of education in Korean culture, the power of strong family bonds, and philosophies for living a wise life. It’s also a study in how to write a masterful epic novel. Not to mention my brief time with Min reminded me that she’s a real one. Good meaningful times! #americanhagwon #litlifeislife #503
