As You Are has truly been such a gift to me and my time at Clemson. The other night I shared about what it looks like to view God as our Father and understand what it means for Him to love us the way a father does. One of my favorite passages in scripture, Romans 8, testifies to this truth.

“For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.” - Romans 8:14-17

Wow. Read that again. We are children of God, we are led by God’s spirit, He has adopted us as His sons and daughters, we cry out to Him “Dad!”, we are co-heirs of Christ. What a privilege it is to be able to call out to Him as our father. One time I heard someone pray and tell God “thank you that we GET to call you Father”. I realized I had never thanked God for the close relationship He desires with us and welcomes us into, and I began to reflect on what a gift it really is.

For me, my dad is my go to person. If I need something, if I am excited about something, if I am scared, I know I can go to my earthly Father for protection, comfort, security, and love. Regardless if that is the relationship you have with your earthly father, your Heavenly Father does all of that and more. We get to call out to Him at all times and enjoy the intimate relationship between a father and a daughter. Even greater, not only does God adopt us into His family, but he rejoices over us.

“He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but he will rejoice over you with singing.” -Zephaniah 3:17

Do not underestimate the joy God has in His people, the joy He has in YOU. He longs to welcome you into this loving, deep, intimate relationship. Call out to Him, Father!
