NINETY.

We had a whopping turnout of 90 people in attendance for the launch of #QueerAndMuslim in #Toronto last night!

Maryam and I started the process of soliciting abstract submissions on January 12, 2022 and it was published by @uofr_press on April 21, 2026. It has been a journey; and without a doubt, a labour of love.

I’m so proud of this edited collection. This anthology really does something different. It treats mental health as lived, embodied, communal, and spiritual. It integrates therapy, ritual, shame, migration, substance use, family rupture, resilience, and collective care into a cohesive archive of experience.

Rather than arguing whether Islam and queerness are compatible, the book documents how LGBTQ Muslims are already living that integration in complex, creative, and psychologically sophisticated ways.

A big thank you to my co-editor, all the brilliant contributors, the panelists, the press, the supportive people who consistently show up for me, TORONTO, and to @gladdaybookshop for making this soon-to-be classic come to life.

My heart is so full.

Light Upon Light emerged during a profound period of transition within the Ismaili community—one marked by grief and grace, uncertainty and deep faith. Artists Hafeez Jamal (@kaenimusic ) and Zaheed Damani (@zaheedmusic ) wrote this song from within that moment, giving voice to the emotional terrain of change and the enduring presence of noor.

I had the serendipitous opportunity to direct and produce this project. While I am not Ismaili, what drew me in was the universality of what was being explored: how we move through loss and renewal, and how creativity becomes a place of meaning-making when words fall short.
With the song as its anchor, this became a shared artistic space—an invitation to embody and express the inner movement between darkness and light, from struggle to breakthrough. What emerged is a poetic reflection of many journeys, woven together into a single tapestry.

2005-2025

Love means nothing in this sport but I’ve felt so much love in this community that I spent more than half my life involved.

To this day, I still don’t know the rules to tennis nor do I really follow it but the Rogers Cup/NBO community has been a special one to me.

Started volunteering for high school volunteer hours and never left. It became adult summer camp and my Once a Year Fam was formed.

I’ve met so many wonderful people over the past 20 years and that is what I looked forward to the most every year I volunteered. For real, it was never about the tennis for me.

My home was Promotions (and one year in Practice Court Scheduling). The team that is one of the backbones of the tournament. Our team runs on adrenaline working endlessly with a smile on our faces.

We are usually one of the first ones on-site and for the most part a few of us are the last ones to leave each night.

From sampling to running the fanzone activations & athlete autograph/Q&A’s to pretty much everything on centre court. We are the ones running around the bowl doing giveaways and contests, we are on court escorting for coin toss and little aces, making sure the flags are good to go with ball crew to even being that person at the end of the matches making sure the balls get signed by the athletes to be hit into the crowds. (no matter how late the matches go)

I have nothing but respect for everyone I have worked with who tirelessly made it all work.

I will miss this adrenaline and endorphin boost.

Ro signing off.

(can't tag everyone but appreciate you if you are in any of the photos!)
