This trio meets again! We will play two concerts with @atkontou and Yorgos Xylouris, what some people might call an encounter between tradition and the avant-garde with a focus on the dialogue between roots and new beginnings, between tradition and the improvised present.

We will be at @importexportmuc tomorrow and at Gethsemanekir Frankfurt am Main on Friday!

An encounter between tradition and the avant-garde: Cologne-based jazz and improvisational musicians Athina Kontou and Luise Volkmann join forces with the renowned Cretan lute player and singer Giorgos Xylouris. At the heart of this collaboration is a dialogue between heritage and new departures, between tradition and the improvised present. Kontou and Volkmann—known for blending traditional Southeastern European and Anatolian music with contemporary jazz in their band “Mother”—create a musical space with Xylouris where the strengths of both worlds can fully unfold. The trio approaches traditional music from a radically contemporary perspective, bringing ancient, archaic sounds into the here and now.

Korhan Futacı is an Istanbul-based saxophonist, composer, producer, singer and songwriter. A renowned name in Turkey’s alternative music scene that’s currently focused on his solo project and his free-jazz band ‘’Konstrukt’’. Futacı’s solo project is a delicate mix of psychedelic rock, jazz and lyrical music, blended thoughtfully with the Anatolian essence. Transforming Istanbul’s chaos into an energetic ritual-like atmosphere infused with dark sounds and abstract textures, Korhan and his beloved musician friends aim at making audiences travel beyond time and space to feel the unseen colors of the resonances.

An encounter between tradition and the avant-garde: Cologne-based jazz and improvisational musicians Athina Kontou and Luise Volkmann join forces with the renowned Cretan lute player and singer Giorgos Xylouris.
