TROUBADOURS OF THE HIGH PLAINS AND HIGH MOUNTAINS

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

I have started, scrapped, and rewritten this at least a dozen times to try sum up the absolutely wild emotional roller coaster that has been the last week and 5 years.

It feels impossible to include everyone and everything we have to be so thankful for, so here’s just a few scenes among the very, very many great memories.

Forrest & Ryan, combined and paraphrased:
“I never ran a soundboard or hosted before this so thank you for the opportunity ”

Both Mountain Hound & Kurt aka Lil C-Rap Therapist separately debuted new songs about the bar & music community on the last shows

Dustin: “Thanks for keeping guitar picks on the wall. I know that anytime I play here I don’t need to bring one.”

Jennifer Sutherland getting everyone to sign a poster and then giving it to me along with a portable guitar amp while on stage at the last comedy showcase

Abstinence Pistols writing a thank you as their final trivia answer

And finally for now, two separate conversations with Whitney:

“This has really shown us who the real ride or die friends are”

“ I think I can handle the Grateful Dead now. I’ve heard enough of the songs enough times and there’s a lot that are actually pretty good”

Come to Western Sky this Saturday! Let’s go out with a bang.

I first came to Western Sky looking for a way to break into the Denver music scene after arriving to Colorado. Every Friday, I would rush down from my Americorps service site and play at the open mic. Playing a couple songs was a good way to wrap up the week. Somewhere over the next couple of months, I became a part of the Western Sky family. It’s something I never thought would happen out of a neighborhood bar. Slowly, I was getting to know Harrison, Whitney, and the other friends I made at Western Sky. I was making deeper connections as I found my way in an unfamiliar, yet welcoming, Colorado.

Western Sky has introduced me to so many new people, experiences, and opportunities. Harrison took me to my first NBA game to celebrate my birthday. I met attorneys who have given me advice for a potential new career. I started playing with a full band. And so many other things that I couldn’t fit in a social media post.

Fast forward to now, I’ve played shows, ate hotdogs, celebrated my birthday, and met some of the coolest people at @westernskybarco .

After 5 years, Western Sky is closing shop. One last chance to watch live music with me, @atthewatertower , @harrisongramcia , @songbobbin , and @mountainhound.band 🎸this Saturday at 8:00pm

Here are pics of some of my favorite memories over the years. A big thank you to Western Sky! Let’s celebrate 🎉

Coupla 56 year olds pretending to be 20 year olds for their 31st wedding anniversary.
We packed kayaks and surfboards knowing the water levels were dropping like a rock for @fibark.colorado, but @sunjr.band was playing so we were going anyway. Ended up with no water but lotsa fun music and good grub.
Finale was a 2 hr non-stop dance party Sat night with our first DJ show @thepolishambassador. I was skeptical at first as a fan of live music, but it was a blast and the crowd was nuts. We may be buying Pashminas, mesh shirts and platform boots for an EDM show at Red Rocks soon.

The 13th year of the @choicecitystomp day 1! Friday, June 5th!

$2 Elvis was delighted to be the master of ceremonies waaaaaay out in Laporte, Colorado! That’s right, The Hoax has spread all the way to The Rocky Mountains!

Wearing red to kick the weekend off, it was a great night of music, and I was happy to reunite with old friends @brookblanche, @clearforkoutfitterstx - who is back and better than ever - along with the other acts, @john_till_ (whose hot sauce I purchased), @thewatertower, and the unmistakeable @jawkneevee who displayed the blood and guts one would expect from a show orchestrated by @straykitten88. It should be mentioned that Jaw Knee Vee has a rabid fan base that would rival KISS! These people love him, man! The venue itself, @swingstationlaporteco was perfect for the backwoods roots lineup, and I really loved it there. Grateful to be involved.
