What a blessing it's been for our current English students to hear from English Alumni at Marketplace Faith 🦅📖

While most people think that the only thing a person can do with an English degree is teach, these women showed us that you can do so much more!

We heard from Auburn Chason and Annie B. Jones about their Faulkner experiences and how English has aided them in post-grad life.

Auburn Chason discussed her most recent book release: Fruitful Grief: A Reflection on Pain and Promises

Annie B. Jones read an excerpt from her book published in 2025: Ordinary Time: Lessons Learned while Staying Put.

We're so grateful to everyone who came out and supported these amazing women, and for all the advice they gave our current students!

Meet Auburn Chason, our first alumni spotlight!

Auburn graduated from Faulkner University in 2018 with an Honors BA in Creative Writing. Since then, she has married fellow alumnus Blaine Chason, become a mother to their daughter, Marlowe, in 2022, and has been published. Most recently, her children’s Bible study, The Five Senses and the Plan of Salvation, was published by LightWay Publishing. Coming soon are two additional works: Counting to Ten with the Bible! for children, and a teen girls’ study titled Belonging: A Girl’s Purpose in God’s Family, written for Lads2Leaders. Additionally, she has authored a children’s book about Faulkner titled Goodnight, Faulkner!, which will be available through LightWay Publishing in the coming weeks.

Auburn is especially thankful for Faulkner University—particularly the English department—for providing the creative foundation that allowed her to explore writing in so many forms, including her honors thesis, which was partially written in iambic pentameter. Words have been a source of both treasure and comfort for her, and she credits her professors for equipping her to use writing as a means of bringing glory to God.

Happy birthday to this lady! The past 5 years have been a blessing to have you in my life. All of the planning, cooking, decorating, shopping, salsa and coffee breaks (aka favorite child 😂😉) has been only a few of my favorite memories with you. Watching you become an amazing mommy to sweet Marlowe has been a privilege. I know you will do amazing things in your next adventure but know we love you and you will always have a place in our home! Of course being the Favorite child means you can pick any room you want! LOL!!
I love you and hope you have the best birthday ever! 🩷

Marlowe Johanna, you are a wanted and prayed for little girl. Wildly loved by your family and by those of us who are lucky enough to know you. So happy to hit send on this gallery, I imagine it will be the first of many with this sweet girl 😍 Note: Make sure you swipe to see her very proud sister Delilah who wasn’t a fan of me getting too close to her baby.

Today, the students were blessed to have Blaine Chason come and speak for Friday chapel. It’s always a good time with him!! After an encouraging lesson, he gave them this quote to remember- “Failing doesn’t give you a reason to give up, as long as you believe” ~Naruto Uzumaki Thank you, Blaine!

We love hearing from GB alumni and celebrating their accomplishments alongside them! Continue reading to hear about a neat opportunity Auburn Chason gets to be a part of!

“When my old high school’s theater director, Revel Gholston, emailed me four days before the end of the United States of Frozen contest,” Auburn said, “I had never heard of it, but he told me, ‘Your words may win it.’ So I responded to him and told him I would apply on behalf of Opelika as long as we could come up with something really great to say in response to the phrase and the production’s theme, ‘Love Is An Open Door.’

I submitted the application the day before the end of the contest, citing my reasons for believing that not only could Opelika pull off a production of Frozen, but they would do so with the professionalism and grace and love that I remember as part of my time in that theater program, most of which is credited to that same director, Revel.

Revel called me three days ago to ask me what I had written, affirming that I ‘wrote too well,’ because now Opelika gets to be the first school in Alabama to perform Frozen with the rights to three performances given to them by Disney.

I’m so excited to celebrate this accomplishment for Opelika and the state of Alabama and enjoy the show in the coming year!”

Congratulations, Auburn!

Each Monday, our students have the opportunity to meet before school for a morning devotional. It’s such a great week to start out the week! We are so thankful to have Mrs. Auburn and Mr. Jonathan lead this special time.

On Friday, our students had the privilege of hearing Mr. Blaine Chason speak at our Friday chapel. He spoke to them about the importance of not being alone and choosing good friends wisely. He spoke from Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 which reads that
“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor. If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”
Thank you, Blaine!
