🧙🏼‍♂️ I’m convinced audio engineers are working some kind of sorcery. 🧙🏼‍♀️

Because if you’ve ever listened mid-session, you know it doesn’t always sound smooth right away.

It can feel a bit chopped up with different takes, tones, pickups, tiny adjustments, and then, BOOM.

Somehow it all comes together perfectly.
Not because anything was off. But because you’re hearing the process in real time.

🪄 What blows my mind is how fast they work under pressure.
 Making micro-adjustments, shaping timing, massaging the audio so it fits seamlessly with picture, all while under the gun for time. Becasue this industry works FAST.

🏹 It’s precision. 💗 It’s instinct. 🎨 It’s artistry.

And it’s a really good reminder (for me, at least) that you don’t need one flawless, start-to-finish take.

You just need to stay present, trust your choices and most importantly, trust the incredibly skilled humans building it with you.

Because what they do behind the scenes? Feels a lot like magic.

On top of that I’ve been lucky enough to be Composing Music for the film alongside the fantastically talented Chris Reineck and tackling the Post Sound with my wonderful team at Audio Process. Hello friends! My latest short, How To Bury Your Father, will be screening at @futurefilmshow next month. It’s about a young man who returns home and spends the night trying to fulfill his father’s dying wish for a proper Islamic burial.

We shot it on 16mm film. Working on it has been one of the most rewarding and surprising experiences I’ve had, and that’s because I got to make it with my friends. Come see our work on the big screen - you can get tickets on the Future of Film Showcase website, it’s screening with Rien De Mal!
