I‘m not discounting the possibility this may be an elaborate prank but it appears Her Hidden Fire has been shortlisted as a Young Adult book of the year at the Irish Book Awards 🤯
Last night was a bit of a blur: I went to the absolutely beautiful @dublinromantasyclub beforehand (thank you so much for having me!) Checked my ‘fit (feeling some panic - I mean what is the dress code for ‘nomination thingy in a post office?’ It’s not like I’ve done this before unless you count going for class prefect when I was 14). Thankfully Storm Austen held off as I sprinted across town to the GPO to still be late because that’s how I roll. If I am ever punctual you will know my body has been possessed by aliens.

Watched the announcements, and there was Her Hidden Fire’s little dragon, yay! ✨ The very lovely @meabhagscriobh came to say hello and I managed to briefly act normal😍 Sadly then my true nature revealed itself, though Maebh very kindly did not get me thrown out for trying to start a fight. Needed to decompress (autism for the win) and had a quick scoot through the museum📪 Then met some extremely accomplished authors (I can say this as I am not in competition with them) @vickinatoro, @sarahjaybee and @jenniferbrayinsta😍 And because one must always be closing, managed to get a picture with both Her Hidden Fire and little sister Her Rising Flame (she’s out two weeks! She too deserves some love!)🔥

In all seriousness, I’m so grateful to the Irish Book Awards and An Post: they’ve created something that really goes all out to support Irish authors, booksellers, and book clubs and is an absolute joy. I can’t quite believe I get to be a part of it: I still meet people who think fantasy isn’t ‘real’ writing so it means a lot to see it being accepted as a genre just as capable of producing beautiful writing as any other. So: if you can, please do vote for someone, honestly it’s more craic that way 🔗https://form.typeform.com/to/klH57p6N - see also in my bio @irishbookawards

✨ Character Art ✨
✨ Her Rising Flame ✨
Out in just over two weeks! - 3rd Nov (US) and 5th Nov (Ire/UK)
(Which when you think about it, is perfect gift-season timing for the fantasy fan in your life (Especially if that person is you 😬 I mean how else do you survive the madness?)

Ionáin’s very bad day(s). I wanted Her Rising Flame to be about consequences: what happens after the hero stands up to the bully and the credits roll? In Her Hidden Fire, Éadha, Ionáin and Gry all make life-changing decisions. Now, in Her Rising Flame they each must fight to survive the consequences of those decisions🔥

Ionáin’s arc was always based on this line from Patrick Kavanagh ‘...can a man find you when he lies with his face downwards and his nose in the rubble that was his achievement.’ Ionáin’s whole life has been defined by power; now he has to find out who he is when he no longer has any, and is no longer the golden prince loved by everyone. In a way, his was the arc I was most interested in writing, because I’ve always loved stories where a character has everything stripped from them, and they have to work out who they are when there’s nothing left ⛓️

I love how @badbandbanshee has managed to show so much of Ionáin’s story with just a sketch, and especially the way the silver threads line up with Éadha’s postcard, to show the lingering connection between them despite everything. Up next: Gry in a mask beneath a wolf moon, because it can’t all be suffering, you know🌕😍

Meanwhile, the lovely people at Great Island are working away behind the scenes on the TV adaptation; now we’ve character art for two of the three main characters, I’d love to know who people think would be a dream casting? (A girl can dream) ✨🌟

The ONLY place we have ever seen the word “Un-Mate” used is in A Court of Wings and Ruin. 👀

I’ve checked all the books and all the series and there is no mention of it in any other book!

And here’s where it gets really interesting…

The only inner monologue we’re given around this moment is Feyre’s.

Lucien has just arrived at the House of Wind, and Cassian is chiming in on the conversation explaining to him how difficult it was living with Rhysand and Feyre when they were mated but un-mated.

And Feyre is the one whose thoughts we’re hearing while all of this is being relayed to Lucien.

So… WHAT is going on here, guys?!

Is this a certain Illyrian’s quote or is this one of our three sisters???

I need to hear your theories because I genuinely cannot stop thinking about this. 😂
