Delighted to announce a new event, cross.currents; ambient music in the hull of a beautiful big boat.

Cross.currents is a long-form ambient experiment at @theatreship. An amorphous musical space where sounds and thoughts wash in and out. A slow wave of sonic transport for a much deserved Sunday splay down, sketch-book and long tea by your side

The performance will begin with distinct individual musical voices laying down textures and colours separately, these solo passages gather towards an inexorable, pulsing whole as they are collected together and re-interpreted as parts of an ensemble. Melodic and rhythmic flotsam wash up and coalesce into an amalgous orchestra, as solo-sections are built into symphony .

Our featured artists include the serrated shoegaze spread of @knee.gnaw’s violin, the propulsive rhythms and melodic adventure from the cello of @augustcooke, and the soaring saxophone and guitar textures of @inbuiltobsolescence - plus many wonderful guest artists including the incredible vocals of @evisachenko. These guest and feature segments will then be collected and re-orchestrated live by inbuilt obsolescence.

🎵 WHAT DOES YOUR MUSIC LEGACY MEAN TO YOU?

Episode 5 of SHARING WHAT REALLY WORKS is out today.

This week I’m talking about something that has become increasingly important to me as an independent artist — legacy.

I’ve been releasing music for many years now, and one of the reasons I still make albums, revisit older songs and care about how my catalogue is preserved is because I want the music I create to have a life beyond the moment it’s released.

We spend so much time as independent artists thinking about the next single, the next playlist, the next stream or the next opportunity that sometimes we forget to look backwards at what we’ve already created.

Those songs are part of our story.

In Episode 5 I talk about why music legacy matters to me, why my catalogue is something I increasingly value, and why I believe independent artists should think about the long-term life of their music — not just what happens during release week.

If you’re an independent musician building a body of work of your own, I’d love to know:

Do you ever think about your musical legacy?

🎥 Episode 5 of SHARING WHAT REALLY WORKS is on my YouTube channel now.

And if you’ve been finding the series useful, subscribing to the channel really does help me continue to grow it. 🦋

IT’S FRIDAY AND THAT MEANS NEW MUSIC DISCOVERY 🎧

Every Friday, I’m sharing my Top 5 picks from this week’s Fresh On The Net @fotnblog submissions — discovering new artists and songs that I think deserve to be heard.

There’s so much incredible independent music being made right now, and this is my way of shining a little light on some of it. 🦋

🔥 TRACK OF THE WEEK THIS WEEK IS…

@augustcooke_ Mountain Down

This track is from August’s sophomore EP “On The Line” which is released on the 20th October

But there are four more artists and songs that caught my attention too they are in no particular order :

1. @wearebeforeclose - Circles
2. @tilly.valentine - Taxi Ride
3. @claramakesmusic You Don’t Deserve Words
4. @ashanwarrior - Anyone’s God

Go and check them all out, follow them, save their music and, most importantly, give them a listen. ❤️

And if you’re an independent artist, keep submitting your music to Fresh On The Net — you never know who might discover you.

NEW MUSIC DISCOVERY every single Friday.

A real dear to the heart project to create @augustcooke_ ‘s ethereal video for ‘On the line’ back in march at the essex countryside photographed by @lorenzoborzello

A great example for playful souls crossing paths and experiment in their genius.

My EP ‘Night Bloom’ is coming out this Friday, and to celebrate I’ll be playing at Stoke Newington Old Church on September 18th. It’s such a beautiful venue! I’ll be performing with my band and a string quartet, which I’m so excited about.

Very lucky to have some of my favourite musicians opening the night
