Pâte de Verre is the art of crushing glass into fine powders, and combining it with a liquid binder to create delicate, sugary textured sculpture and vessels.

This winter we are offering a two day week workshop, where you will learn the basics and create a glass vanity box; and a 6 week workshop where you will get in the weeds of this ancient process!

Sign up for our Pâte de Verre classes at urbanglass.org/classes or via the link in our bio!

Spent this year getting to know some of the most beautiful and passionate people! I’m so grateful and can’t wait to continue this project and share so many more incredible stories that remind us of the power of art, resilience, and connection.🫶🏼🫶🏼

To everyone who has taken the time to speak with me and allowed me to share your stories: thank you. Your openness, creativity, and honesty has been a gift, and I’m so grateful for the trust you’ve placed in me.

I’m so excited to be part of the exhibition Smash the ceiling, floors, and walls; take the broken shards and blow it back—a powerful experience curated by my dear friend Alyssa Velazquez @velazquezalyssa , on view at Pittsburgh Glass Center until 01/20/2025.

I had the privilege of collaborating with the incredibly talented non-binary glassmaker Aullar Mateo @aullarmateo , whose personal journey inspired me in ways I couldn’t have imagined.

Through shared stories of family, identity, and self-discovery, I got to know Aullar’s kind and courageous spirit. They spoke about feeling suffocated by societal expectations and how glassmaking became their path to self-acceptance. As we connected, it became clear that I wanted to capture their resilience, softness, and strength through bright, soft tones and transparent layers—like glass itself.

This series, I’m Not a Ghost, is a portrait of Aullar’s journey toward embracing their true self. From intimate conversations to performing wrapped in thick plastic sheeting, Aullar revealed layers of transformation, breaking away from the binaries that have confined them. The resulting photographs speak to the liberation that comes from self-acceptance, capturing the beauty in vulnerability.

A huge thank you to Alyssa, who not only initiated this collaboration but was a key part of the process. It’s so important for curators to challenge artists and push us to explore new depths in our practice. Collaborating with Aullar and Alyssa was an unforgettable experience that took me to places I hadn’t imagined.
