Thank you @goldenhorsefilmfestival. What a week!

Couldn’t think of a better way to close out the @luckylufilm festival tour for 2025. Truly grateful to all the festival programmers and crews who screened our film and took care of us this year.

I flew to Taipei last August to meet Chang Chen. Three months later he’s on set in NYC, and three months after wrap, we’re premiering in Cannes. A year and three months since that first meeting, I’m back in Taipei buzzing as he accepts his award for Best Lead Actor. Teared up as @charleshumenry walked up for Best Original Score and found myself hugging Ang Lee for Best New Director. Will miss traveling with @nybongiovi @teezy319 @norm_li and the rest of the LL fam. A whirlwind year…

Looking forward to sharing Lucky Lu with everyone in 2026 🚲

🌍🎥Outer World Meets Film 🎥 🌎

The world is full of themes, trends, and conversations, and we love linking everyday topics to cinema. This week’s pick: #horoscope #libra♎️ .

Libra season is all about balance ⚖️. Did we match it with the right film, or did we miss a “typical Libra movie”? Let us know in the comments!

Because at SceneScreens we talk about films!

I mention #everythingeverywhereallatonce as a typical Libra example, but I really wanna shine a light on an indie gem (and its filmmakers) I recently discovered:

Layla, a British film from 2024.
Layla is a struggling Arab drag queen whose confident façade hides their desperate desire for love, and they have to face uncomfortable truths.
Watch this Drama/Comedy Romance film set in London!

Directed by the brilliant @glamrou and produced by @savannahjbay @curzonfilm

Great cast all along: @louisgreatorex @safiyyaingar @hausofdarkwah @teriquejarrett @sarahaghaonline @selfesteemselfesteem @bby.ldn._ - casting by @shaheenbaigcasting

BTS: @emilysprecious @cobbieyates @adelefirth_make_up_design @sorayagilanniviljoen @_paininthearm @fionabrands_ _ @cj_mirra @goflynn @phil_canning_hi @chloemissonlocations @danieljeromegill @kirstiehowell_ @crackerjaw

And to quote the iconic @ghazialruffai in the film, “we aren’t sponsored by Barclays Bank, bitch”.
Investors/Supporters: @fbhula @olliemadden @film4 @miabays cheast @britishfilminstitute @nybongiovi @spellman.samantha @thisissignificant @aumgrouphq

It’s great to be back to the Toronto International Film Festival to celebrate its 50th anniversary with two of our films, YOU HAD TO BE THERE, and LUCKY LU!

Blessed to be working with such an amazingly talented and dedicated cast and crew for both projects. And also to have such generous partners to support us along the way. The tide rises for all 🌊

LUCKY LU premiered at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival for its North America premiere!

Based on Lloyd Lee Choi’s short, “Same Old,” “Lucky Lu” is the story of a Chinese delivery driver in New York City who discovers his e-bike has been stolen.

With his distant family on the heels of a reunion, Lu, played by Chang Chen, contends with a community that’s turned its back on him while keeping his family afloat.

It’s a riveting, touching film that explores the hope and hardships of working-class immigrants.
