Yes yes y’all back again on Particle.FM and for our featured guest we’ve got our good judy Aunt Acid on Daydreams this month! A long time dancer who’s love for dance music came from hearing the likes of the Prodigy or the iconic Jock Jams series of mix CDs. Aunt Acid started throwing parties & DJing in NYC in 2019 with a heavy emphasis on the 80s & 90s era of underground dance music. We came to know him during the pandemic era of deejay Twitter, frequently exchanging UK rave or 90s house tracks back & forth. We’re super excited for y’all to hear his mix, one he describes as a freestyle & hip-house filled love letter to his home in Newark, NJ; one for the breakers, whackers, early ravers & those who blast the speakers out of their cars.

Catch Aunt Acid’s guest mix kicking off the first half of the show tonight at 8pm ET (5pm PT). Daydreams residents close out the show with early house, freestyle, east coast clubs sounds and of course breakbeats galore.

In an attempt at salvaging any sort of pride, I guess it just seemed relevant to take a moment to reflect on recent events in the fashion world scope, where I couldn’t help but notice this particular similar design by @chanelofficial in this season’s show, to my very own celestial ball & chain bags that I’ve been making for years. It may seem petty and of course no one could know for sure, and we are all surrounded by the same beauty, music, art, and are inspired by each other, I recognize... However, this time felt a little rough, I must admit, since I made my first ball & chain design in 2009 as part of my Senior Thesis Collection at Mass Art, and have since been commissioned to make so many over the years, selling in the Guggenheim Museum Store, to legendary Boston fashionista Marilyn Riseman RIP, (whom was my first costumer and cheerleader,) as well as to many more beloved customers and friends along the way. So I guess, it just feels like petty small pickings when an indie designer does something in a small way, and a major fashion house does it in a big way. Anyway, no pointing fingers, just food for thought. ✨

I’ve been waiting for this moment for a year and some. This is my first book as the principal photographer and it was always a dream of mine. I could not have asked for a better team and group of creative hard a** working women (and of course @aunt_acid by my side). Every few months we’d get together in a different town and make gorgeous images together. Thank you @carolinegidieredesign for entrusting me with your book and for being such a talented, fun designer. You inspire me constantly! @lindseyellisbeatty for leveling up all the beautiful moments and adding your care and beautiful eye. @rizzolibooks Philip and @dougturshen such a full circle moment getting to work together again. Laying out A Life in Good Taste was an art in itself—determining the perfect flow, the perfect “push and pull”, selecting from hundreds of extraordinary images, and ensuring every page told a story. In the end, we had over 200 stunning images we couldn’t use, even after @RizzoliBooks added 16 extra pages just to fit in more of the magic.

This book wouldn’t be what it is without the incredible people who helped bring it to life: photographer @PhotoIsabel, stylist @NameBrandLindsay, my former colleague @Gretchen_Norris, and @Aunt_Acid, Isabel’s right hand. Working with them was a joy, and I looked forward to every shoot day. In the office, @Colt_Caldwell was a tireless sounding board, helping me choose only the strongest images. Grateful beyond words. ✨ A Life in Good Taste arrives March 11.

Next up we have Aunt Acid (@aunt_acid) & (aunt_acid on SoundCloud), who is dance music's #1 Mariah Carey stan. After promoting several queer parties in the New York underground and being a longtime dancer, Aunt Acid threw a few of his own parties and eventually started his venture into the world of electronic music, making a name for himself in the NYC underground scene 🪩

In this 70 minute mix, Aunt Acid has gifted us with a gluttononous mix of high energy chuggers, laced with acid, breaks, progressive gems, and some speed garage for good measure. This mix creates that sweaty club euphoric atmosphere that keeps ya dancin til the sun comes up 🥵
