We had a blast hosting the grand opening party for our new store in Denver! Thank you to everyone who came out to see the new space, hang with the athletes, watch films and celebrate this big move with us! Big props to everyone who camped outside the door to be first in line for the Mircrolight Alpine down jackets!

Come check it out at 1551 Platte Street in Denver, CO!

Looking at our objective wondering if we brought the right spiky things for the climb ahead.

We didn’t.

Remember. If you wanna guarantee you need boot crampons, only bring ski crampons. Same rules apply the other way around 😂…

Iceland had exceptionally poor snow totals all winter especially at the lower elevations. We had no real clue where we were going to ski until we got there, the gathering of beta ahead of time didn’t really do much for us. So after finding our camp spot for the night we would go for an evening drive to spot our objective for the next day, which mostly meant finding an easy way up the bottom 1/3 of the climb. Luckily right before we arrived the northern zones got over a foot of new snow which made piecing together our approach a lot more pleasant, but just thin enough to make our ski down the bottom 1/3 a spicy kind of fun.

Day 2 of touristing through southern Iceland at this surreal, iconic, US Navy plane wreck from 1973. Big time Interstellar vibes accentuated by the splitter weather we kept running into…🙏🏼

Side note: if you ever visit here, bring at least 13 gallons of water, a food cart and a willing Sherpa to carry you back to the car. 😂🤣 I could’ve sworn the crash site kept getting further away the more we walked. Not unlike this scene from Monty Python…

Remembering back two years ago. Epic adventures to the fjords of BC with big conditions, big smiles, and big hearts.

While driving north to Skagafjörður we stopped to be tourists with the horses to the left, I looked right, squinted and immediately recognized this turf church that was on my checklist.

Grafarkikja was thought to have been built around 1670 by, Gísli Þorláksson a prominent church builder. Iceland doesn’t have a lot of mature trees currently and I don’t know what its history is as far as timber production goes, but I don’t think they have a lot of timber to spare. The planks on this church were rather large and made of a hard, tight grained wood, making the woodwork and detail that much more incredible.

There were a handful of well decorated gravesites within the walls of the protective Earthen fence that do serve as the final resting place for villagers past.

The whole entire structure was on a miniature scale lending to the common mythology of elves and gnomes, the interior ceiling height wasn’t more than 5 feet.

What a privilege to be right next to such history, such sacred space, in such a beautiful place at such an opportune moment.

This was night two in Iceland. After a full day of touristing and getting acquainted with the country we landed at a restaurant for dinner without much of a plan for camping. We discovered that we were dining next to a camp spot at the base of a waterfall that was an absolute thing of beauty. So we settled in, started happy hour and looked up the northern lights forecast and found that they were going to be strong that night. Then, what felt like the next moment, there they are, ebbing and flowing and dancing to our absolute amazement. Fiddling with camera settings and oooing and awwing so much that our British neighbors asked us in the most polite fashion if we could shut up, lol. To which we obliged and then kept spazzing out at the show going on before us while biting our lips.

Still processing this trip, still changed by this trip, still so grateful for the experience.

Words. They don’t do it justice. But I’ll try.

I woke up this day and in response to the beautiful Icelandic morning that I was presented with I remember thinking to myself something like, OMGWTF.

Then we drove for an hour the whole time thinking to myself in response to the vista before us something like, OMGWTF.

After putting the van in park as we started our approach surrounded by an otherworldly landscape I thought to myself something like, OMGWTF.

Then while skinning next to a glacial stream with a couple of my favorite people I thought to myself something like, OMGWTF.

After ripping turns down our objective that we huffed and puffed to the summit of I thought to myself something like, OMGWTF.

Then on the way out we experienced a windless lake reflection on what we had recently realized was Earth Day and I thought to myself something like, OMGWTF.

Only to return to the hot springs not far from the border of heaven and earth to have a post ski soak thinking to myself something like, OMGWTF.

Honestly don’t know where to start to explain the fortune that we experienced the last two weeks. I jokingly said that I was going to pack roller blades instead of skis since the snow totals in Iceland were so incredibly low. Having only a very slight notion of where might hold the best snow amongst the endlessness of peaks to chose from, we successfully sniffed out some of the best runs of our lives, in stable, windless(!!!), splitter conditions.

Team vibes were firing.

I doubt our experience would have been so rich on a good snow year considering the low hanging fruit that normally exists here at this time of year. We had to work for it and in that process were rewarded remarkably well, to which all I can say is, thanks, I must’ve done something right in my past life.

I haven’t lived in Alaska since I was a kid, but parts of it still feel like home. I cut my teeth playing in these freezing rivers, tip-toeing across mossy logs, scrambling over wet boulders, belaying off alder bushes, and racing across loose scree. That was my first playground and the first place I felt totally like myself. Decades later, these movements still feel natural, which makes coming back to these wild places feel like home.

Thanks for the gift mom and dad. I didn’t realize it then, but damn am I grateful now.
