🦻🌍 Happy International Cochlear Implant Day ‼️ I have attached two pictures to show both sides of my head wearing a single Cochlear Implant(CI) processor. This has caused much confusion as the way I wear my CI is completely different as to how you would see it normally. Normally the processor and magnet part of the CI would sit on the same side of the head. Some people have asked me if I do this on purpose for better hearing or as some sort of fashion statement.
➡️ Here is the real story:
I had a falling accident onto my CI as a toddler and as result needed skin behind my right ear for skingraft to save my CI. So as a result I don't have skin behind my right ear for the processor to sit on. A lengthened custom made cord was made so that the processor can sit on my left ear. So that is why you don't see the magnet and the processor at the same time. My magnet sits on the right and my processor on the left.
Despite my falling accident my surgically implanted part of the CI has so far served me for almost 29 years and still going strong! My CI is the light in my life and my close and trusted friend that I am so thankful for. So again, thank you Graeme Clark for being such a powerhouse in the invention and progress of the Cochlear Implant. Thanks to you, today me and millions of CI users worldwide feel blessed with the joy of sound! 🥰🙏🎶

Hallo zusammen! Die georgischen Hörgeschädigten brauchen unsere Hilfe, bist Du dabei? ☺

In Georgien gab es ein Cochlea Implantat Programm, welches von der georgischen Regierung zur Verfügung gestellt wurde. Allerdings wurde dieses Programm im Jahr 2020 beendet, da es laut georgischer Regierung sinnlos und zu teuer sei. Es gibt sogar Eltern von hörgeschädigten Kindern, die an Cochlea Implantaten zweifeln. Aus Sicht der georgischen Selbshilfegruppe, die ich letztes Jahr für eine Woche besucht habe, muss noch sehr viel Aufklärungsarbeit bezüglich CI´s in Georgien geleistet werden. Zunächst aber soll das Cochlea Implantat Programm wiederbelebt werden, da viele Kinder auf ein CI warten. Dazu fragt uns die georgische Selbsthilfegruppe, ob wir in einem Video erklären können, warum ein CI helfen kann und es so wichtig ist für diejenigen, die ein CI haben wollen. So ein Video soll maximal 1 Minute dauern und ihr könnt dort folgende Fragen beantworten:

- Welche Bedeutung hat ein Cochlea Implantat für Dich?

- Wie hilft es Dir?

- In welchen Lebensbereichen ist ein Cochlea Implantat für Dich besonders wichtig?

- Welche Chancen eröffnet ein Cochlea Implantat?

Bitte stellt euch beim Video kurz mit Vornamen vor (Hi/Hallo, ich bin...).
Wenn ihr ein Video aufgenommen habt, sendet es an Jan.Roehrig@doa-hrm.de und schreibt bitte euren Text dazu, den ihr im Video sagt (wie gesagt, maximal 1 Minute ;). Ich übersetzte den Text dann ins Englische, sodass euer Video mit englischem Untertitel in Georgien gezeigt werden kann. Die Videos werden Entscheidungsträgern der georgischen Regierung und Eltern von hörgeschädigten Kindern gezeigt. Ebenfalls bekommen junge Erwachsene, die ein CI haben wollen, die Videos zu sehen.

Just a little appreciation post to that tiny little magic magnet on my head known as the Cochlear Implant(CI). It has faithfully served me without fail for 28 YEARS and still going strong! It still blows my mind that this piece of technology proves to be so resilient despite its "age". Everyday I am thankful for the magic of the sound it produces for me and how with it I have been able to acheived heights in my dance career that few though possible. 🙏🏻💓
