Boxerfest ‘26, Day 2
Woke up to a dreary mist and decided to spend a slow morning as a family in Lititz. We visited the ducks at the park before going to get groceries for the cookout later at Alex’s.

We showed up at @dsautoworks_ for the cookout where we caught up with the rest of the group as they rolled in. Build updates, mysterious motor swaps unveiled, goals for the future, laughter and introductions filled the air along with the smell of burgers and dogs on the grill, manned by @djbarbell

Bailey gave me a tour of @pizzaboymetalworks HQ and we reflected on how much a life can change from asking a simple question or meeting a new face. We came back to the cookout and this sentiment really resounded in my head while I looked around at some of the best individuals I have the privilege to know, and to think it all came back to meeting around these goofy cars.

As the night went on, there was a moment when all of the conversations went quiet as Alex returned from giving Zeke a ride in the postal wagon. The hood had not been latched when someone closed it, which Alex was unaware of, and in a second the hood, windshield, and roof had all been crumpled when it flew up. After the initial shock and disappointment of Alex’s hard work undone, several of us rallied around the car in the shop to see if anything could be done, as the car was supposed to be in the show the next day.

With several thought out hammer blows and some packing tape, the worst of the damage was at least presentable. The accident certainly changed the tone for the evening, however Alex’s attitude and everyone else’s support I think carried through louder.

There’s so much we assume is in our control and at times are humbled, for better or for worse, by how fast things can change. And we may never know just how much our words (or silence), can alter the course.

Random video clips from the weekend. Didn’t capture everyone and everything of course but here’s this anyway.

I often forget just how much abuse and change I’ve put this car through. Each change slowly making it better and better.
Today is 9 years with it. I consider it my rolling resume in a sense. I owe this car so much. It’s given me so many friends and connections. Forced me to learn skills I never thought I’d be able to learn. Landed me jobs, good times, adventures, etc
To those who don’t know, the build date of this chassis from Subaru is shared with my birthday (2 years older than me though) Crazy. Let’s keep shredding.

POV: You’re me, trying to fall asleep on New Year’s Eve but the memories from leaning in hard to what you’re passionate about is keeping you awake.

What a banger year, with some of the best people I could ever ask to share a hobby with.

(Tagged as many as I could, capped me at 20!)

Last time we asked about the most overrated mods 👀 This time it’s all about the favorites, the things Subaru owners LOVE most about their cars. 🫶
Were you surprised at the answers? What’s yours? ⬇️

Boxerfest Weekend ‘25
Day 3: Sunday

I woke up to my 4:30 alarm after what felt like only minutes since laying down. We all got ready and drove back to @dsautoworks_ where we would all convoy from to the show.
The crisp air mixed with wiffs of gasoline, oil, and maybe even just a hint of coolant. We did our best to outrun the sun rising behind the rolling Lancaster cornfields, burning off the morning fog.

The cruise was going well until Alex’s GT, driven by Anthony, suddenly erupted in a cloud of burning coolant. A few of us who didn’t have our cars in the show pulled over with Anthony and found the lower rad hose had blown. @legacy_jake_ had a jack, I had my tool set, and with an Autozone less than a mile away opening in 20 min it seems like an issue we’d have fixed quickly. And while Anthony and I did have a new hose on and filled with coolant another leak meant we had to leave the GT behind until a tow truck later came. Properly trauma bonded, Anthony and I joined the others.

The show was good, I tried my best to catch up with as many people as I could and see the cars there. Like I mentioned in last post, I did a poor job taking any photos and instead focused on conversations, trying to be present. Got to watch friends take home trophies, which is always a great thing to see, and more so when you’ve seen firsthand the work that’s gone into these machines. All were well-deserved.

The post GC meet, organized by @dl3r_ and @buckylasek is always a favorite ending to the day, as this is the chassis that started it all for me. Having mine there for its second year makes a younger me proud.

Then we said see ya later to each other; some anticipating another year, some unknowing when our paths will cross again. Somehow along the way between NASIOC build threads and Facebook group questions, I’ve found more here than I could have asked for. Conversations about grief while holding flashlights in an engine bay. Celebrating growth and goals achieved since last year. Holding growing families in arms one moment and holding the weight of the unknown future with someone for another.

All because I bought a stupid Subaru in ‘13

Until we meet again.

I asked, you answered… and I even found the cars 👀 Do we agree or disagree with these ‘overrated mods’? What’s YOUR vote for the most overrated Subaru mod? Drop it below ⬇️

Boxerfest Weekend ‘25
Day 2: Saturday

This was the 5th year I’ve made the trip across the state to Lancaster County to meet up with a handful of guys who used to be my “internet car friends.” I think we all agree each year that this gathering we have the day before is the real highlight of the weekend, and the atmosphere feels more akin to a family reunion than a car meet.

Started the day with coffee and a bagel at a super cool old-school diner with @stay_posi_bro where we caught up on life/jobs/family stuff while everyone else woke up and the rest of our house party showed up.

I finally got to meet @quinn_meister in person with his super cool sedan and we compared notes with @_battle_wagon on tuning our ECU’s and the joys of breathing new life into these 30 year old heaps. They out the finishing touches on their cars to get ready for the show.

I then went over to @dylanroslan12 ‘s place while he cleaned up his 1G Forester and I played with his pups for a bit. Dylan’s always got something in the works, even with his crazy busy work/school schedule.

Alex (Mr. @dontsuck.jp / @dsautoworks_ ) has always graciously opened his doors to host all of the friends he’s made in the community, and this year it was cool to see just how much this group had grown and evolved. I really did a poor job of capturing how big of a turn out (but to be fair I was completely caught up in conversation with both old friends and new).
Alex’s postal wagon sat on the corner, right in the intersection of all the social circles Alex has brought together here. The car has evolved so much since I first saw it, adapting and evolving into what it is today, and reflects the work and effort Alex has poured into his career too.

@djbarbell kept the grill cranking all evening and everyone ebbed in and surrounding the shop, catching up, taking notes, making last minute fixes, and dreaming up new found aspirations. Some of my greatest inspiration and opportunities have come to light from the conversations held in this circle. Wish I could touch on every convo, but we’d be here a while.

A guy would be hard-pressed to leave a scene like this hungry and uninspired.
