POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
A couple of weeks ago, Bonfire finally came home to Auckland. 🔥 After travelling through Brisbane, Hobart, Wellington and Beijing, this show returned to the place where the first spark began, as part of the @aucklandimprovfestival at @coverttheatre. It was such a special night. A packed room, a beautiful cast, and an audience ready to listen, laugh, imagine, and be moved. Bonfire is a show about stories, memory, culture, imagination, and the strange little truths that appear when people gather around the fire. Every version is different. This one felt warm, playful, generous, and very alive. Huge thanks to the performers, the festival team, the tech crew, and everyone who came to sit with us for the night. I’m not done with this show yet. There’s still more fire to gather around… 📸 Photos from Bonfire at Auckland Improv Festival 2026

And that's a wrap! Thank you @aucklandimprovfestival for a great week. And what a treat for closing night to get to play with this lovely group of humans 💜 Until next year! 🎉

Meet the people gathering around the fire on Sunday. Twelve performers. Each one bringing a different background, a different relationship to story, a different way of listening. That mix is not accidental, it's the whole point of Bonfire. Elle Collins, Nicole Jonesy, Nik Edwards, Matías Avaca, Matt Armstrong, Fran Vergara, Robin Milward, Haley Purdum, Kim Gayosso-Robinson, Richard Lambert, Nathan McIntosh, and Ashley Wurzburger. Stories shaped by culture, memory, and imagination. Never told the same way twice. Sunday 19 April, 6:30pm at @coverttheatre in Ponsonby. Part of the @aucklandimprovfestival 🔥 Tickets at aucklandimprovfestival.com or follow the link in bio. #Bonfire #AucklandImprovFestival #Improv #Storytelling #Auckland

One of my favourite moments of the festival 🔥🇨🇳 We got to present Bonfire, a format that gave me so much joy throughout 2025. A format I was lucky enough to tour to Brisbane, Hobart, and Wellington, and that had its debut in China as part of the Now Theatre Improv Festival. It was the closing show of the festival, and in many ways it felt like a gentle recap of what we had experienced together during the week. I was blessed with a cast made up of festival instructors who trusted the format and the preparation journey leading up to it. This show truly benefited from the bonds we built during the week, and from the relationships that already existed before the festival. It felt like everyone was able to bring to the stage what they love and what inspires them, and the audience received that with a lot of generosity. I was also incredibly lucky to work with an amazing festival and theatre team. Their passion and dedication allowed us to explore all the possibilities a show like this can hold. Props, set, projection, live music, we had it all. If I were to relive a day in my life, this would be a very strong candidate... Thank you.

Another highlight from the Now Theater Improv Festival week ⚙️🎭🇨🇳 This one is from The Engineering of the Scene workshop. I was genuinely excited about this workshop going in. It was in high demand and sold out, and knowing that many of the participants come from an engineering background in their day jobs meant we could really go technical and dive deep into structure, systems, and precision, and how that mindset can be applied to scene work. It was a joy to go in depth, to speak a shared language, and to explore how analytical thinking and creativity can support each other on stage. It was also a great chance to finally work with @theachojiang , who told me he’s a civil engineer himself, so it felt like the perfect combination. I had an amazing time with this group!

Another moment from the @now_theater Improv Festival week 🎭🇨🇳 This set is from the Soundpainting show, directed by @davidmoncadava . It was such a joy to be part of the instructors’ ensemble. I started the performance in the visual artist seat, working with the projector and the beautiful set of crayons, markers, and other materials that @tammytien set up for us, and later had the chance to step on stage and share the space with the rest of the ensemble. Soundpainting is always a pleasure to play. I love how many stories can be discovered through collective and multidisciplinary exploration. I’m still in awe of what came out of this performance. Huge congrats to everyone involved, and thanks to Now Theatre for making this happen. This is what we love!

Dark Impro Festival 🌑✨🇦🇺 What an incredible experience! I felt so welcomed and appreciated. Huge thanks to @proteaimpro for creating such a true community festival. I got to share my workshop-to-show formats Bonfire and Hotel Sol, and we had an absolute blast. Everyone was kind, curious, and bold. Can’t wait to be back! 🙌 Have a great rest of the festival, team!

#improshow #rückblick #paderbornerland #improvisationstheater #impropaderborn #magischerrealismus #morgen
