Room/Tone A live sound performance with Joshua Churchill, Ven Voisey, and Ava Koohbor Organized by Andy Vogt with Joshua Churchill Sunday, October 4, 2026 6–9 PM Performance: 6:30–8:30 PM Presented in conjunction with Vogt’s exhibition The Ringing in My Eyes, Room/Tone brings together Bay Area sound performance artists Josh Churchill, Ven Voisey, and Ava Koohbor for an evening of live, site-responsive sound unfolding throughout the David Ireland House. Working with electronic and acoustic instruments, field recordings, voice, effects, tape, microphones, and artist-made instruments, the performers will activate the house through overlapping passages of improvised sound. Rather than unfolding as a conventional seated performance, sound will emerge from different points within the house, with some performers moving through its rooms over the course of the evening. RSVP at the link in our bio. Limited tickets available. This program is part of 500 Capp Street’s evolving program supporting artist-driven experimentation, made possible in part through support from the Teiger Foundation.

moments from such inspiring artists and friends: 1-4 @avakoohbor , 5-6 @dnishhh and @kanoko.nishi at Dead End Vintage @deadnoisestation : 7-8 @orcora , 9 @isabelle.w.k and @noisewatermeat , 10-15 @macapner with @chlorinearoma , Suki O Kane and @bdayeyesore at @bricabracofsanfrancisco : : taken with my old softly broken nikon digital camera that was a hand me down crime scene camera which I’ve cherished (roughly) for 16 years. at this point I let camera do what it wants, usually with a very slow shutter speed and a detachment from outcomes, which vary greatly. but I find it really fun to see what camera does when turned somewhat loose.

6.8.2026 // a line up of improvisational noise // Dead End Vintage, 3370 19th St. San Francisco // doors 7:30, show 8 // $10, NOTAFLOF Ava Koohbar : sound enactor, handmade instruments, ‘making unfolds through process, handmade instruments and performances. Performance not as a product, but a as a way of life.’ - excerpt from a description of her new book, Of Flesh and Frequency, a Poetics of Sound Making. @avakoohbor Kanoko Nishi-Smith is a performer currently based in SF/Bay Area. Her recent interest has primarily been in performing 20th century and contemporary musical compositions for piano as well as for koto (Japanese 13-string zither), and free-improvisation in various different contexts. @kanoko.nishi Danishta Rivero is an improviser, performer, and sound artist based in Oakland, California. She explores the artifacts resulting from heavy processing of the voice and their relationship to its acoustic resonance. @dnishhh Jordan Blankenship is an experimental sound artist from Modesto, California. His work examines the kinetic relationship between sound and gesture through extended techniques, prepared instruments, and improvised performance. @jordanblankenship K Francis Messer is a bay area-based percussionist and electro-acoustic noisemaker. performances emphasize suspension and consequence with analog feedback, prepared drums, salvaged objects, and sonic interference. sounds move in fractures and flares, embracing points of collision. @chlorinearoma Kaitlin McSweeney is a performer and composer based in Oakland, Ca. She improvises with live-looped vocals, cello, feedback, signal and environmental noise. Her recent work explores eroticism in noise through a body-centered invitation of tension and release, tearing apart and bringing together. @captainmcsweeney Domi Nigro is a performance artist and dancer of varied vocabulary based in Oakland, Ca. Inspired by both the mundane and fantastical, their art aims to explore the merging paradigms of these worlds by delving into highly emotional feeling states, improvisation, and technical movement forms. @earthenergy Thank you to @deadnoisestation and @antonio_californio !

All day fun at the Kanazawa Soundscape Festival yesterday. Fascinating line up of a wonderful mixture of Japanese and western artists working in all things sound. Also included in the pics: new friends, a floral art installation pop-up next door, and my Shinkansen pound cake. Known as a mini-Kyoto but deserving of its own rep, today I’m off to explore the city which features a castle district, vast seafood markets and a refined cultural arts scene.
