Stop using a deep kip in your handstand push-ups 🙅🏻‍♂️

For years, frustration piled up anytime I had to do handstand push-ups in my CrossFit workouts.

A couple reps would be fine, but then I’d try to kick up and bounce away from the wall.

And for the longest time I just blamed my body for it - “you’re tall”, “you have a fat ass” (although my wife will attest that I have no ass at all 😂) - easy excuses to get out of HSPUs.

Until one day I watched a Story from @averyjesmer71, playing around with a different style of kip out of the bottom.

I gave it a try and after a few attempts, I ended up stringing together double the amount of reps - not because I miraculously got stronger.

But because I got more efficient.

See, a deep kip means two things:

1️⃣ more time under tension

2️⃣ less space between your body and the wall (if you adhere to the current CrossFit Open standard)

Both of them are eliminated by the shorter kip.

Now, it takes time and practice, like everything in CrossFit. But when you have it down, it makes a world of a difference.

In Week 3 of my 4-Week HSPU Protocol for tall athletes, we go through the shorter kip in detail. Comment ‘Protocol’ so my little robot 🤖 friend can send you the link or click the link in my bio!
