Prior to tomorrow's first dual, we will hold a moment of silence to honor the legacy of Mark Allen, the father of sophomore Avery Allen who passed away last year after a courageous battle with colon cancer 💙

"My dad fought with stage 4 colon cancer for a year until passing away on February 5th of last year. My dad was many things: a coach, a mentor, a leader, a friend, but most importantly a father and a husband. I could go on and on about all of his amazing qualities but what I hold on to tight is everything that he taught me. Up until his last breath he constantly told me that I’m strong and I can handle anything that life throws my way. My dad was my best friend and someone who made me feel so special and cared for everyday. I looked up to him in so many different ways. I remember my dad’s last week - I came home from college to be with him. Even in his absolute worst condition he was still communicating with all of his former players making sure they were moving in the right direction. This is just a small example of what kind of person he was. My dad was such a special person and is the reason i was able to get through last season. Even though I was so heartbroken that I no longer had him physically on this earth, I knew he was still by my side and so I wanted nothing else but to make him proud. Now I have something to live for and every day I put my best foot forward because this is what my dad taught me to do. There was not one time my dad showed any signs of weakness through his time battling with cancer. He fought so hard not for himself but for me, my sister and my mother. His strength truly inspired me and still does to this day. He was so fearless and left a mark on so many peoples lives. I'm so proud to tell his story and even more proud to be able to call him my dad. Cancer is a very scary thing. The most important thing to do in this very short life is to live everyday to the absolute fullest and hold your loved ones very close while you can. My dad has been and always will be my hero. Just like yesterday and the day before and everyday after losing him I dedicate this day to him." - Avery Allen
