Well this post is a long time coming, about a decade or so. It’s finally time for the premiere of my own first radio show BARRIO TRAX WORLDWIDE on @jerome_sound

This mix is a major milestone for me. It’s a direct reflection of a massive night right here in East LA, where I had the privilege of sharing the lineup with some of my biggest personal influences - Chicago hard house legend DJ Trajic and LA legends DJ Juanito and DJ Orlando. I had the duty of closing the night out at 4AM, and I wanted to kick off this new mix series with a heavy, real world example of what I’m spinning when I play out locally.

For those that are new here, my artist name is Pachuco and I’m a Xicano DJ, vinyl and CD collector, and music archivist raised between East Los Angeles and Whittier, California. My work is dedicated to preserving electronic dance music created by Latinx and Indigenous producers, with a focus on sounds that emerged from barrios, working-class neighborhoods, and underground communities throughout the 1990s and 2000s.

My selections explore the connections between local scenes and global underground movements, from records produced by Angelenos and the sounds that defined Los Angeles’ rave era, to electronic music cultures that developed in working-class communities around the world.

Although my focus is centered around 1990s U.S. hard house, my archive expands through Latin electronic music, electro, ghetto house, ghetto techno, freestyle, and other underground styles. Through my mixes I try to highlight the cultural histories behind these records, celebrating the communities that created them and preserving the sounds that shaped generations of dance floors.

I hope you all enjoy this series. In a time where people can cosplay where they’re actually from I’ll always keep it 100 with ya’ll. I stay true to the source always and nothing less. This ain’t a corporate DJ series. Whittier & Herbert forever!

Big thank you to @aviloud for coming with me to East LA to take these shots in front of my childhood home which is now an empty lot. Another reminder why archiving and physical media is so important!

Program Audio’s new compilation is why I’m moving to San Francisco.

Not really. But picture this: I’m head-bobbing down the stairs carrying a 30-pound box to the sound of 3:33’s “WYWD.” Next, I’m assembling a bed frame to the deconstructed club thrum of “Piedras Negras.” Then it’s back up the stairs to Liano’s loose, off-the-cuff hip-hop. Featuring 10 different artists from across the globe, the compilation’s sound travels on its own journey. From the synth-heavy lo-fi house of “Fresh & Best II,” to the hypnotic ambience vår creates on final track “Closet Yi,” the whole thing moves like flan—the dessert, not the artist—bouncy, soft, and just structured enough to hold its shape before slipping into something else.

Even better: All proceeds from Program Audio Compliation #001 go to the National Immigrant Justice Center, which provides legal aid and advocacy for immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. That detail reframes everything. The Spanish-language titles stop feeling aesthetic and start reading as subtle, but intentional connective tissue.

Program Audio’s founders Erika and Arthur are Bay Area natives, and it shows. In the Bay Area—where roughly a third of residents are foreign-born—projects like this don’t exist in a vacuum. They reflect the communities around them. Between underground parties and the recent transformation of a 59-year-old Fotomat into a radio station, Program Audio isn’t just curating a sound. They’re building a scene.

So thank you, Program Audio, for the auditory adrenaline—and for making the San Francisco sound a little harder to ignore.
