I tell it like it is. I have been called difficult, too much. But I was trusted, sought out, and invited into rooms.

💡“I was called difficult, disruptive, too direct, too political, too much.”

There’s something about Avril Henry AM’s new memoir that I suspect will resonate with a lot of women.

This week, I had the pleasure of attending the NSW south coast launch of “Not All Diamonds Are Worn”, with the wonderful Wendy McCarthy AC leading the conversation.

What a remarkable life @avrilhenry333 has led.

From growing up under apartheid in South Africa to becoming one of Australia’s most influential advocates for gender equity and leadership.

Among her many achievements, Avril helped drive the introduction of paid maternity leave in Australia and was one of the four co-founders of R U OK? Day.

There was also a part of the conversation I appreciated that night about belonging. In reflecting on Avril’s life journey, Wendy @dontbetoopolitegirls observed the challenges that Avril had needed to navigate in asking: “Where is home? And will they make a space for her?”

Because this is the quiet but often heavy price of challenging expectations. About being labelled difficult for refusing to accept things as they are.

Wendy described Avril as being “beautiful and gentle, tough and kind.”

I thought that was lovely. And I left feeling grateful and at peace among two inspiring women who have spent their lives making things better for those coming behind them.

Two women who have gone before, who understand those costs because they’ve paid them too.

Thank you, Avril, for sharing your story and for your event. And thank you to my friend @helenlyons27 for the introduction and the ticket.

I look forward to reading the book in full!

📖 Not All Diamonds Are Worn is out now.

A night of wonderful stories, generous hearts and plenty to celebrate. 🤍

Last night, we welcomed Avril Henry to Cupitt’s Estate for the launch of her memoir, Not All Diamonds Are Worn, in conversation with Wendy McCarthy.

It was a beautiful evening of incredible storytelling and connection, raising funds for breast cancer research.

Thank you, Avril, for choosing to celebrate such a special occasion with us, and to everyone who joined us and gave so generously. We hope you had a brilliant night.

When two icons like Ann Sherry AO and Avril Henry AM take the stage to talk about a book, you know it's a book that matters.

"Not All Diamonds Are Worn" is about a life spent fighting for love, fairness, equity, and women's right to lead.

They told her she didn't belong. So she built a world where she — and everyone else — belonged.

This is the memoir of Avril Henry AM. It's take us from apartheid South Africa to rooms where power is decided, and a lifetime spent opening doors for the women coming behind her.

@avrilhenry333’s memoir is unleashed into the world today! To know Avril is to have a cherished friend and champion for life. I am so very proud of her, of this book and of the lives she has impacted and will continue to impact along her path.

She has lived several lives from South African apartheid to raising family in the UK to championing maternity rights in Australia. “A force” doesn’t even begin to describe her. Avril has always been proof that choices can overcome challenges and shares both her triumphs and tribulations in equal measure.

If you want to buy a copy of the book, you can do so at one of the following places:
1. Order First Edition Hardcovers (Available Now) from @entourage_authors website
2. Book stores will be coming online as stock arrives at them over the next few days
3. Amazon ebooks
4. Buy from Avril herself at www.avrilhenry.com.au

There are also book launches in Sydney (8 Oct), Mollymook (14 Oct), Canberra (29 Oct) and Melbourne (4 Nov), with tickets available from Avrils website, or Cupitts Estate (Mollymook only).

Signed copies of the book are included in the ticket for Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne.

When I grow up, I want to be as wonderful and impactful as Av!

“F*ck me dead, Avril! You did it!”

Hot off the press 🔥🥂 I want to take a special moment to celebrate Avril Henry @avrilhenry333 - the activist, author, change maker, Member of the Order of Australia, and mentor to global leaders.

This week, we launch her new book "Not All Diamonds Are Worn" to the world. It is available now at www.entouragemedia.ca, in Amazon, in local Sydney stores (list to come), and soon, stores worldwide!

Getting to know and work with Avril was a highlight of my career and life. She is gracious, inspiring, and she never fails to speak up for what and who she believes in.

About the book:

Avril Henry grew up in apartheid South Africa, in a society that assigned value by race, class, and gender. From a young age she was an observer — but never a bystander.

She saw exactly who the rules protected, who they harmed, and who they erased. Wherever she could, she pushed against them. At twenty-two she left with two suitcases and five hundred dollars, searching for fairness, freedom, and the right to speak honestly without surrendering her conscience.

This is the story of how Avril not only changed her life, but the lives of countless women in Australia.

Available now. Link in bio 🔗

How do you recover after watching Wuthering Heights? The sweeping moody moors, the chemistry between Hearhcliff & Cathy? Electric. It was pulsating, slightly savage, wildly sexy and full of torment. Best movie Av & I have watched in a long time 🎥 even though we were sobbing at the ending! #girlsmovienight #absolutelyworthit #weareinlovewithjacobelordi #worthbreakingthedroughtfor #mylifekem
