Congratulations to our Arizona College of Podiatric Medicine, College of Pharmacy-Glendale, and Arizona College of Optometry Medicine students, who took their Oath of Commitment during this year’s annual White Coat ceremony. Welcome to the profession! Two people in White Coats are smiling and standing together in front of a wooden wall with a large university seal

There was a 1% chance that I would ever be in the same room as academic deans from both our IL & AZ campuses and that moment came last Friday, for the Presidential Inauguration of Dr. Joshua Baker.

I was thrilled that all agreed to take a photograph with me!

Can you spot your Dean! 🙌🏾

I had THE MOST AMAZING DAY at @azcopt_optometry !!!

It started with a bagel & coffee morning session with the @azcopt.nosa club, where I got to share about VSP Vision’s foundation of diversity and community, built on the legacy of one of our founding fathers, Dr. Marvin R. Poston.

Next up was my annual Business Mgmt Lecture to the 1st Year students, talking about “Vision Care 101” - how vision insurance works from both the Providers’ (ODs) and the Members’ (patients) perspectives.

This was immediately followed with a Lunch & Learn for the entire 1st - 3rd year classes, co-sponsored with the @arizona_optometric_association and Dr. Amber Dunn. We got to talk with the audience about the importance of advocacy and being a positive voice for the profession.

And as if that wasn’t enough to make the day great, we closed out the evening with a super fun 3rd-Year Sendoff event at #ChickenNPickle where the @azcopt2027 class got celebrate the end of their didactic education and the beginning of their 4th-year rotations. I absolutely loved getting to spend some time with this group of students - I’ve developed such a close bond with so many of them!

And a shoutout to one of our ROCKSTAR recruiting-extraordinaire, @kristenhoffman_ for joining me and sharing about the job-matching programs VSP has.

A busy, busy day, but SO WORTH IT!!!

AZOA leadership in action! ⁣
⁣
Thank you Dr. Todd Smith for inviting AZOA leadership to be part of your business class this week. ⁣
⁣
We loved talking about why involvement in organized optometry matters and how THEY will shape the future of our profession. ⁣
⁣
The next generation is bright and we’re here to support, advocate, and grow alongside them.
