I’m still a newbie when it comes to yard maintenance. Weeds were taking over my lawn and I was starting to get really concerned about the Bermuda coming back in. It was time to call in an expert and I’m so glad I did!

@azlawndad spent a ton of time going over my long list of questions, plus gave me tips on using my tools properly, including my mower and trimmer, and even adjusted my sprinklers. When I mentioned my overgrown bougainvillea, he did me a huge favor and gave them a quick trim. As if that weren’t enough, he sent me a bunch of resources and offered to continue being available whenever I have additional questions.

It’s easy to avoid the work altogether and hire someone, I would rather learn, do the work, and lean on experts to help me along the way. I can understand the pride people take in caring for their homes and yards, given how much work it is and how good it feels to look around and see the fruits of your labor.

Don't be a savage animal.👹 Scalp your Bermudagrass lawn in the spring. All that tan crunchy grass that's left over from last season is dead and needs to be removed from the lawn. It serves no benefit to leave it and will only cause problems such as thatch build up and slow green up. Once it is removed it will allow the soil to heat up and also allow for improved air and water penetration. As a result, your Bermudagrass lawn will green up sooner.

It doesn't matter if you have a rotary mower or a reel mower. Just mow as low as your mower will go without the blade digging up the soil. You may have to do it in phases a little at a time as it is often difficult to take off all the grass in one shot. This is normal. Just make sure you bag it when mowing.

Keep in mind that this is not an easy process. It's dusty, time consuming, and will leave you with endless amounts of bagged clippings. But in the end it will be worth it.

Good luck

Is there a better lawn tool than this??

The rotary scissors are one of my favorites. I use them primarily for soft edges such as flower beds and for hard to reach areas that I cannot get to with the reel mower. In this video I am using them on a hard edge that has a curve to it. In the past I would use a string trimmer here but I find the rotary scissors provides me with more control and accuracy. If you don't have one I would highly recommend them.
