Great views, folks, & trail work at @b_o_n_c Grousefest last weekend

If you look beyond the fast-paced world of disposable everything, you can still find a few things that are built to last. Today we chronicle a recent edition of the Onko Rinkus klunker featuring a nice selection of components from companies that still bother to make their own shit. I've had my eyes on the Cruiser Classic for a while and threw my name in the hat to build this years raffle bike. While I might not have been alive during the heyday of klunking, my introduction to mountain biking did occur along the run-what-you-brung modify whatever rusty bike you've got to make it work and go have fun pipeline, so figured I stood a chance to create something that would drop the proverbial panties of fellow luddites and retro-mod aficionados. You're going to have to look far and wide to find another model year 2026 twin top tube coaster brake mountain bike with a 150mm dropper, dripping in the finest parts machined, anodized and polished right here in the USA. The chassis is a mix of old stock True Temper American made steel tubing (thanks @paulhsadoff) along with the signature Rock Lobster Tange Prestige wishbone rear end, and this perfectly oddball Reynolds 531 bent top tube, that is probably twice as old as I am, and I think came from Ed Litton's shop. To cap it off, instead of paint, we had the frame, fork, and handlebars nickel plated which both looks cool, but also will preserve this bike from rusting away far beyond the rest of our own personal expiration dates. So there you go. Something that will outlast whatever crap you can buy at a store these days, and hopefully a bit more fun too. If you want it to be yours, get your butt to Nevada City this weekend and grab a raffle ticket or two. All proceeds go towards building and maintaining the trails we love to ride.

And just like that, the 2026 Mountain Bike Season comes to an end!

Last weekend at Mills Peak, we wrapped up the 2026 Bear Race Series and Bear Gromduro Series after an incredible season of racing across Northern California.

From the rocky terrain of Exchequer, to the endless flow of Nevada City, the coastal views of Marin, and finally the high mountains of Mills Peak, this season took us through some of the best riding and most beautiful places our region has to offer.

And best of all, we created a place for the mountain bike community together!

A huge THANK YOU to every racer who showed up, lined up at the start, chased podiums, battled for series points, or simply came out to ride bikes and have a good time. You are what makes these events special.

And of course, none of this happens without the people behind the scenes.

Thank you to staff, volunteers, and everyone else who put in the hours to make these races happen. You helped us create a season that not only provided a place for people to ride some great trails but also provided a place where some of our best memories are made.

And thank you to our sponsors: Bay Cycles Co, Jakroo, Appearl, Fox Suspension, PNW Components, Tour of Nevada City for believing in us and helping us make the dream come true.

This year was also a huge milestone for the Bear Gromduro Series.

We had our biggest turnout of young riders yet, and watching the next generation of racers show up, race hard, cheer each other on, and have an absolute blast has been one of the highlights of our season. Big shout out to @baycyclesco for believing in the future and giving them opportunities to grow within the sport.

This was the first year of the Bear Gromduro Series and it is just getting started.

Some big plans are in the works for next year and we can’t wait to see where the series takes us.
