EVENTS: Getting architects from across ASEAN and beyond to build together on Philippine soil might sound like a recipe for disaster, yet @anthologyfest ASEAN’s Ground Works program has turned the gamble into ten striking installations peppering the historic grounds of Intramuros, each answering to one of the three-day architecture festival’s pillars of Care, Culture, and Collective Futures.

Beneath the shadow of Manila Cathedral, Royal Pineda of Royal Pineda + arranges rough-cut stone blocks for Grounded in Context, seemingly set at the cardinal points like a compass. Right across, Daniel Terence Yu of Visionarch, with Indonesia’s Andra Matin and Angie Miranti of studio andramatin, built Conditions of Comfort as a bamboo “third space” whose canvas shades double as projection surfaces, while Carlo Calma of Carlo Calma Consultancy and Hun Chansan of ReEdge Architecture hang pale iridescent discs on a sculptural yellow frame for Stewardship Over Time.

Anthony Nazareno of Nazareno Architecture + Design and Tey Tat Sing and Wong Wei Ping of Tetawowe Atelier create a tiled roof platform, its veil of knotted ropes opening up to a slide and a swing for Collective Presence. Gelo Mañosa of Mañosa & Co. and Ekaphap Duangkaew of EKAR Architects send woven string cascading down a metal frame in Future is Local. Capiz shells rustle with windsong across a cylindrical frame in Material Memory by Benjee Mendoza of BAAD Studio and Alan Tay of Formwerkz Architects. Sudarshan Khadka of Leandro V. Locsin Partners, with Alexander Eriksson Furunes, Kozo Kadowaki, and Yuta Shimoda of Meiji University, crowns a thatched, four-legged pyramid with a perch reached by ladder for Negotiated Belonging.

Along the banks of the Pasig River, Buck Sia of Zubu Design Associates and Yani Amores-Dutta and Alakesh Dutta of The Regenesis Project shape Temporal Ground as islands pierced by wooden grids and crossed by “rivers.” For Replicable Systems, Jason Buensalido of Barchan + Architecture and Eunice Seng of the University of Hong Kong turn six modular wood components into chairs, benches, and shade for public use. This year, Anthology Festival brings together a distinguished lineup of featured architects from across the ASEAN region and the Philippines, paired in creative collaborations that transcend borders, cultures, and design perspectives for Ground Works Installation Design.

Each ASEAN architect will partner with a Filipino architect to conceive and build a site-specific installation, transforming Plaza de Roma, Fort Santiago, and the Pasig River Esplanade into spaces that reflect shared stories, diverse identities, and the power of architecture to connect people.

For our 10th anniversary, we’re not just hosting a festival. We’re building a global conversation about what architecture can and should be in the decade ahead. These 50 visionaries aren’t just guests; they’re collaborators, shaping every idea and encounter.

Because architecture is more than buildings. It’s a language for how we live, gather, and dream. Anthology 2026 exists to push that language forward, to uncover the ideas that will define what comes next.
