I might not be posting, but I promise I’m practising! 😅

Four weeks until the National @yoga_sports Yoga Competition and I’m getting my routine together!

Better get used to seeing me upside down 🙃

Three Bulgarian split squats. Three different training demands.

Small changes to the loading strategy can meaningfully change the mechanical demands of the same exercise.

Bilateral loading

Equal loading on both sides allows us to use more total load while maintaining the unilateral nature of the movement.

This makes it useful when we want to place a greater loading stimulus through the legs. Of these three variations, I'd probably favour it most for hypertrophy, although it wouldn't be my first choice if hypertrophy was the primary goal.

Ipsilateral loading

The load is positioned on the same side as the planted leg, increasing the demand to control the pelvis and trunk in the frontal plane.

This can be useful when we specifically want to challenge frontal-plane control while still allowing a meaningful external load.

Contralateral loading

The load is positioned on the opposite side to the planted leg, creating a different lateral-flexion demand through the trunk and changing the balance requirements of the movement.

This can be useful when we want to challenge trunk control without necessarily creating the same stability demands as the ipsilateral variation.

None of these variations is inherently better.

They're simply different tools for creating different training demands.

The skill of programming isn't blindly following a recipe or finding the “hardest” variation.

It's knowing which tool your athlete needs — and making deliberate changes that move them towards their goal.

When training, I've fallen into the trap of always trying to raise the ceiling of my lifts.

Push the intensity. Work close to failure. Demand strength adaptations from the body.

But preparing for this event, maximal deadlift strength isn't my limiting factor.

So rather than trying to raise the ceiling, I'm working on raising the floor.

That means consistent exposure to submaximal weights while refining the weak points in my lift — particularly my starting position and leg drive off the floor.

The goal isn't to see how heavy I can pull every session.

It's to make my 200 kg feel more like an easy 200 kg, while gradually building the foundation that will eventually allow me to pull more.

This approach also comes with a lower fatigue cost, allowing me to put more recovery into the events that actually need it for this competition.

There's more than one way to skin a cat.

Strength development doesn't always have to come from lifting the heaviest weights you can.

The inaugural Familympic Games were an absolute ✨vibe✨

Four families. Seven events. One priceless trophy and 12 months of bragging rights.

Everyone gave it their best crack, as we all pledged to do when we took the Familympic Oath. 🙋🏼‍♀️

We ran, we jumped, we tried not to choke (literally and figuratively), we cheered, and we had a whole lot of fun

The buzz, the vibe, the atmosphere - it was the best day.

The Monzeglios took home the Champions Trophy this year - very well deserved.

Next year, we will be bigger and better and that trophy is coming home where it belongs 💪🏼

Most people think the backbend is the hard part, it's not.

The hard part is slowing down enough to prepare for it.

Today we spent most of our class opening our shoulders, hips and spine, learning about the Yamas and Niyamas, and getting our bodies ready before we even attempted a deep backbend.

It's easy to want to skip straight to the "cool" part, but that's where injuries happen.

The best backbends aren't forced, they're prepared.

I think that's a pretty good lesson for yoga... and for life too. 💚

This morning we kicked off Term 3 with our Open Day!

Keeping warm meant keeping moving, so we chased the sunshine, got our bodies moving, recapped our yoga foundations and reintroduced the kids to the 8 Limbs of Yoga.

Over the coming weeks we'll continue building our skills, growing our confidence and, for those who are interested, working towards competing at the Australian Yoga National Championships.

Turns out starting the school day with movement, mindfulness and a whole lot of fun isn't such a bad idea after all 🤷🤭

See you next Friday. 🧘✨

Remember when moving your body wasn’t about burning calories, steps, or what you looked like?

Move. Play. Explore.

Most people picture hyperbaric oxygen therapy as something clinical or reserved for hospitals. It's a lot simpler than that.

Here's what's really happening inside the chamber.

Under pressure, oxygen doesn't just hitch a ride on your red blood cells. It dissolves straight into your blood plasma, so it can reach tissue, joints and low-circulation areas that normal breathing can't properly saturate.

More oxygen, deeper places, better repair. Your cells get the fuel they need for energy production, collagen synthesis and new blood vessel formation.

And it feels nothing like you'd expect. At pressure, it's like a plane's gentle descent. You recline, you breathe, your body quietly does the rest.
