Let's stop advertising fuelling the climate emergency

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Is anyone else put off by all the marketing-friendly shots of massive SUVs used throughout each episode of The Celebrity Traitors?

Are they really necessary?

Featuring massive SUVs in popular shows like The Traitors and Netflix's The Gentlemen helps to glamourise these kinds of vehicles, playing into their image as aspirational status symbols.

You don't need to be a Poundland Poirot to figure this one out:

1️⃣ TV exposure drives interest: during the 2025 series of Celeb Traitors, online searches for Land Rover Defenders spiked by 31%

2️⃣ People who see SUV ads are 71% more likely to own one than a small car

3️⃣ The number of SUVs on our roads is growing year-on-year, and hit 1 in 3 of all cars on the road last year.

What we see on our screens, we seen our streets. Ever more ever-bigger cars make our streets less safe for everyone, especially children.

We complained to the BBC about this last year and in their defence the BBC said: "The vehicles were hired purely for production purposes and chosen because they suited the practical needs, and the tone and visual style of the series. Great care was taken to avoid unnecessary focus on the vehicle marque and there were no lingering shots intended to draw attention to branding, and no editorial intention to promote any manufacturer."

When an airline sponsors your weekend race, it’s not a natural partnership: it’s sportswashing, plain and simple.

Rome is hosting the latest Wizz Air sponsored running event this week. While the airline claims low emissions per passenger, they continue to push cheap flights and unlimited annual passes that drive up air traffic. We can’t run away from climate breakdown, and big polluters have no place in our sport.

Together with Badvertising and Flight Free UK, we’re calling on race organisers to drop airline sponsorship at the earliest opportunity.
How we move matters! As runners, we can protect the places we love to explore by choosing train travel, local events, and speaking out against greenwashing.

Sign our petition today to tell race organisers to drop high-polluting sponsors!

Interested? Join our event next week! Info below 👇

The disaster in Istanbul is a window into modern football…

Bosses and big clubs take massive money to promote fossil fuels, while the rest of football faces the consequences of the worsening extreme weather that brings 😬

We have to call out and cut off this vicious cycle 🔁

The Champions League is back and our sponsor spotlight falls on Villareal vs. Napoli ✨

Villareal are closely tied to Pamesa ceramics in a deal that stands out for its old school vibe. Turns out you don’t always need big oil behind you in the Champions League! 😅

Napoli are promoting MSC, the giant shipping company that runs on major pollution. MSC were previously found guilty of misleading consumers with greenwashing marketing 😬

We need a ban on big polluter sponsorship to help level the playing field in European competition! ⚖️
