It’s February and that means it’s Heart Months ❤️ it’s a month for Congenital Heart Disease patients. Here’s my story of when I had to get open heart surgery. So when I was born the doctors thought at first I was fine. But then realize after the first day I wasn’t fine, I had a hard time breathing and was starting to turn a bluish purple. So then turned out I had to get open heart surgery, front and back quotation of the aorta. I only had 48 hours to have the first surgery performed. My first surgery was conducted to repair my descending aorta that was shaped like an hourglass. So the doctors had to go to my back and cut me from underneath my left scapula to get my artery from my left arm to repair my hourglass shaped aorta. After the doctors repaired my aorta, I was going to be sent home after my recovery. Because the doctors wanted to do my next surgery in 9 months but I basically stopped breathing 3 weeks after my 1st heart surgery. So they had to take me in as an emergency and conduct my second heart surgery. The doctors only had 5 minutes to do the surgery, that is because they didn’t have a heart pump small enough for infants. So within those 5 minutes they had to stop my heart and reconstruct the 4 chamber of my heart. That is because my heart only had 1 chamber, so they had to reconstruct all 4 chambers of my heart using gore-tex material and start my heart again. The doctors also reconstructed my Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) and Artial Septal Defect (ASD). So I was in recovery for a long time, but when I came home all of my dads coworkers and chief knew about my 2 major heart surgeries. They did call my dad to see how I was doing tho when I was in surgery during that time and even came to visit me but when I came home they just decided my dad should stay home and take care of me. But that is my heart surgery story ❤️ and because of me having CHD I got to go to an amazing camp called @campdelcorazon which is a heart surgery camp from ages 7-17 🌞and I met so many amazing friends there 😊and after I graduated from @campdelcorazon I then went to @pace.cdc which an adult version of the heart surgery camp 🌞❤️and it’s from ages 18-25.
