In 2015, a mutual friend set me up with a radio/podcast guy named Bald Bryan who wanted to make a comedy documentary about his brain tumor. Hilarious.

I would learn that in 2009, Bryan had been diagnosed with a brain tumor and given six months to live. But, as Bryan liked to say: “I made that doctor look like an idiot.”

Sadly, after eighteen years of proving doctors wrong, Bryan passed away this past Friday night, surrounded by family and friends.

From 2015 to 2025, I filmed Bryan getting healthier, then sicker; his tumor shrink and, later, grow. Christie got pregnant and had Tessa. (I didn’t film that.) I watched his baby girl become a big kid. And maybe the hardest thing to watch… I filmed Bryan practicing stand-up comedy.

Somewhere in the middle, the film felt impossible to finish. I had small children and was trying to pay the bills like the taxi driver from Total Recall. More than once, I decided I couldn’t make it a priority anymore.

But then I’d talk to Bryan. He’d ask about my family, stay positive, then mention some SNL cast member he’d landed for the documentary.

I’d complain about shooting another interview alone; Bryan would show up excited despite another horrific medication side effect. He never acted like a victim.

After ten years around a guy with an inoperable brain tumor, I learned that whatever I was bitching about probably wasn’t that bad.

Bryan wasn’t going to quit, so neither was I. And, after a quick ten years, in early 2026 we finished Growth (thanks to our fantastic editor/producer, @tylergurdfilm) and premiered it with Bryan, Christie, Tessa, family and friends.

Growth screens again this Saturday, September 26, at @davincifilmfestival at The Grove— our first screening without Bryan.

I wish he could be there to laugh at his own jokes and bask in his own glory. But I’m grateful that, in the first days after losing him, a roomful of people will get to hear Bryan’s story and laugh with him.

Bryan Bishop passed away, but his legacy will live on with his work. @baldbryan Bishop passed of a brain tumor but made a film that is debuting this Saturday at the DaVinci Film Festival at @thegrovela. The movie is called “Growth.” Let’s pack the house for Bryan. Let’s sell it out for a man who never stopped giving back. The film will be showing Saturday 9/26 from 4:45-6:50pm. The movie will be shown and then Bryan’s widow Christie will lead a Q&A. Let’s celebrate and mourn this amazing man together. I’ll be there. Link below. If you can’t make it, a GoFundMe has been set up to help support Bryan’s widow and daughter. I’ll put the link to the film festival and then the link to the GoFundMe below. Love you all.

“Not BRYAN BISHOP!” 😭😭😭

The King of Drops, the Master of Point-Shitting, the Classmate of Tom Brady… frick, my heart is so heavy💔

Most of us know the backstory- brain tumor diagnosis in 2009, given 6 months to live… And Bryan kicked that prognosis’s ass for 17 MOFO YEARS!!!
…which was extraordinary and miraculous and exceptional just like you, Bryan… but I sit here today and think- “yeah but still… How?…. How is it over…?” We were so used to you beating the odds… 😭

When I started working at Carolla Drinks I came in as a huge fan of Adam’s and everyone on the show. Teresa Strasser so brilliantly captured Bryan’s role on the show and the magic he created on ACS… I used to MARVEL that this guy started as a random call screener back in the Loveline days- because you would have thought from listening to the show he was a first round draft pick (that’s for you B) (if there were such a thing) to joining the pioneering pirate ship podcast of the Adam Carolla Show. He was lighting fast, whip-smart, eloquent and those DROPS alone are deserving of an award in some Comedy Hall of Fame!

Ironically, because I began working out of the studio and saw Bryan frequently there and at events- I never actually told him how much I loved him and what he brought to the show… which makes me kind of sad… When you’re around someone during the comings and goings of work, then fans are around at events- I think I always thought there would be another, better time to talk more in depth… and then you don’t (usually) know when the last time is that you’re gonna see someone…

I was fortunate that I got to be ever so slightly in the mix with ACS & Bryan… some of those days & events were the best days of my life and memories I will forever cherish.

But even as “just” a listener- the laughter and JOY Bryan brought to my life is immeasurable and unforgettable…

Thank you Bryan… I’m so sorry… and so heartbroken for Christie, Tessa and all of your families and loved ones. 💔

I’m not usually someone who makes posts like this unless someone genuinely affected me, and @baldbryan did. I’m so, so sad and sorry to hear about his passing.

I worked with the Adam Carolla Show for several years, filling in Gina’s chair whenever they needed me, and Brian always went out of his way to make me feel at home, welcome, and like I actually belonged there. And when that feeling does come along, you don’t forget it or the people who made you feel that way.

Super grateful to this guy. He was such a stand-up guy and had such impeccable comedic timing. I feel legitimately lucky to have known him.

Life, man.

Thinking of his wife, daughter, family, and everyone who loved him.
