Join me on June 12th 6:30pm-10pm to help me reach my fundraising goal for the 2026 Chicago Marathon, which I am running in support of BandWith Chicago. All event proceeds will contribute towards my goal, and I will be matching the first $300 in donations! As a lifelong musician, I am honored to be raising money for this incredible organization. BandWith is a Chicago-based non-profit dedicated to providing exceptional performing arts programs to underserved communities. Since their founding, BandWith has connected over 700 young people, ages 5-21, with outstanding arts instructors and mentors, providing them with the performance opportunities and support they need to be successful. I have experienced firsthand the role that performing arts education plays in the lives of young people. It is about more than just building skills - the arts foster resilience, leadership, empathy, curiosity, and confidence. Growing up, I was blessed to have access to opportunities for personal growth through the arts, shaping me into the person that I am today. Your donations will contribute towards BandWith Chicago’s mission to provide that same access in Chicago’s East Garfield Park neighborhood and beyond. With your generosity, BandWith can continue to support free dance, drumline, sound engineering, instrumental and choral ensemble programs, grow and develop new initiatives and ultimately provide more community members with high quality music education. Thank you for your gift of music! Link to donate in my bio!🎵🪩

BandWith Chicago's recent feature in the Chicago Tribune brings important visibility to a broader conversation: how design can expand access to the arts and strengthen community connection. Projects like this go beyond the physical environment. Transforming a former casket factory into a performing arts center reflects a broader commitment to creating spaces that are inclusive, adaptable, and rooted in community needs. Delivering on that vision requires early alignment, integrated thinking, and a collaborative process that considers both technical performance and human experience from the outset. At LJC, we see projects like BandWith Chicago as an example of how thoughtful, interdisciplinary collaboration can help institutions translate ambition into meaningful, lasting impact.

So I’m training for two marathons, the Missoula Marathon and the Chicago Marathon. You may have noticed my unusual training plan of running a mile for every run that the Cubs score, and I was making sure I was going to be able to stick with it before posting this. I’m still not sure, but I’m going to give it all I got. Not only do I want to give the @cubs all I got but I really to give it to @bandwith_chicago. @bandwith_chicago is an amazing Chicago non profit that provides the magic and joy of music to children in Chicago. Annie Palomino is the sister of one of my best friends Billy Tobin who passed away in 2012. The Tobin Family does amazing things for the community and their house was always filled with magic and music growing up. Help me, help Annie and @bandwith_chicago continue to provide that magic for the youth that needs it most. My Goal for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon is $ 2,200. The link to support is in my bio and I will post it as I continue my Runs for Runs. Any support is highly appreciated and if you want to just help by running a mile with me, with words of encouragement, or continuing to tag the cubs with me in the comments of my posts so maybe they help out too. It’s all appreciated. Love Ya

Grateful to spend the day with the Jazz Institute of Chicago at BandWith for their Teachers’ Workshop. I had the opportunity to present “Where’s the Clave? A Hands-On Latin Rhythm Section Workshop for Jazz Band Directors”. The goal was simple: get everyone playing, listening, and feeling how these parts lock together in real time. Huge thanks to the Jazz Institute of Chicago for creating space for this kind of hands-on learning and community. It was also a pleasure sharing the day with such great colleagues. Much respect to Bethany Pickens and Donovan Mixon for the work they’re doing and for contributing to such a strong program. Always encouraged seeing educators lean in, try something new, and engage with the music in a real way. Looking forward to the next one. @jazzinstitute @bandwith_chicago @bethanypickens @donovanmixon @darius_hampton @tycoonpercussion @vicfirth @sabiancymbals @sabianeducation @drumdial #jazzeducation #latinpercussion #musiceducation #chicagojazz
