How ready is your city for extreme heat?

At our Cities on Fire exhibition during Bangkok Climate Action Week, visitors explored these questions through interactive activities, from sharing how hot they think their cities get to rating their cities’ readiness for extreme heat.

Their responses offered a snapshot of how people perceive urban heat and preparedness, opening up a wider conversation about what it takes to make cities more heat-resilient.

But readiness is about more than adapting. Access to cooling, public infrastructure and safe spaces shapes how people experience extreme heat, while children can face particular challenges in getting to school, learning and finding places to play.

Through Cities on Fire, ChildFund Asia brings young people’s stories, artwork and perspectives into conversations about urban heat. We’re helping shift the conversation beyond rising temperatures to ask a more fundamental question: Are our cities being designed for the children who live in them?

We believe heat-resilient cities must be cities where every child can live, learn and play safely.

Institutional capital often sits on the sidelines waiting for grassroot community projects to magically become “commercial grade” on their own.

At the Capital for Transformation panel discussion, we reframed the entire debate, that the issue isn’t a lack of dollars; it’s how capital is structured.

To turn intention into ground-level impact, we need:
- Strategic stacking of grants, catalytic capital, and commercial investment
- Pricing in externalities that conventional balance sheets ignore
- Funders becoming more “ready to fund”, rather than demanding communities jump through endless bureaucratic hoops

We finally made it, and left moved by the people working together to protect our ecosystems, and by how Natalie’s art tells their story.

The tangled reality of the bioeconomy value chain: having natural resources and capital simply isn't enough to scale impact. 🌍⚙️

During our sessions at Bangkok Climate Action Week (#BKKCAW), kak Raihan, Managing Partner of Konstelasi Accelerator, unpacked a critical issue: why so many nature-based businesses get stuck in the "missing middle."

The gap between upstream potential and downstream markets requires more than just program budgets or siloed investments—it requires a functioning, collaborative engine.

Watch the video to hear Raihan explain how we leverage the Value Chain Collaboration Canvas (VC3) to untangle these complexities, shifting from fragmented business models to a robust, ecosystem-centric approach.

Key takeaways from the Clean Energy for Living River Basin panel discussion at Bangkok Action Climate Week:

- 63% of community solar systems fail due to absent maintenance & governance.
- Having 30%+ women operators significantly increases project survival.
- Clean tech cannot thrive in an economic vacuum policy; finance guarantees and watershed health must align.

Swipe through to see why infrastructure alone is never enough.

Thank you to our panel for the insights:

Green Guide!

As Thailand’s largest bilateral climate partner and an important donor to the Asia-Europe Foundation, we were inspired to see how culture could connect people, ideas and creative practices towards a more inclusive and sustainable future!

The launch of the Green Guide for Thailand brought together voices from Thailand’s cultural and creative sector to explore how arts and culture can respond to environmental and social challenges.
The discussion highlighted how to incorporate sustainability into creative practices and how creative approaches can inform direct, practical solutions that further sustainable transformation.

From film and storytelling to reconnecting communities with nature, the conversation showed the power of creativity to inspire action, bridge sectors and bring people together around a shared passion for a more inclusive & sustainable future.

Congratulations to ASEF Culture 360, Creative Migration and Bangkok Climate Action Week on a successful launch!

Rao Likit (เราลิขิต). In Thai, it translates to the power of self-determination—the belief that our destiny is not pre-written, but actively shaped by the choices we make today.

Spending the week at Bangkok Climate Action Week (#BKKCAW) reminded us of this exact truth. The climate crisis often feels like a massive, unstoppable force. Yet, when we look at the roots of our bioeconomy, we realize we are never powerless.

The climate we share tomorrow is directly built by the economy we shape right now. It is shaped by how we fund nature-based businesses, how we untangle the missing middle, and how we treat the communities guarding our forests.

From Davos, Oxford, Singapore, and now Bangkok... we brought Indonesia's interconnected bioeconomy to the global stage not just to showcase what is possible, but to find partners ready to draw a new path with us.

This is our Rao Likit. Let's shape the economy. Let's weave the value. 🌿

Stay tuned over the next few days as we unpack our full journey, insights, and stories from the ground at #BKKCAW
