A visit this morning to the home and beautiful garden in Hove, East Sussex, of the legendary Barbara Kennington, founding creative and editorial director of WGSN, the online trend forecasting house that emerged out of the first dot.com boom and changed fashion research forever. I worked with Barbara as editor-in-chief of WGSN from 1999 to 2006, an important period in my career. Barbara has now returned to her first love (she studied fashion design at the RCA), joining forces with Lucy Goffin to make waistcoats and scarves from exquisite found textiles under the name Material Being (their next presentation is at the Pond House in Ditchling, September 5-6). Owned since 2024 by Apax Partners, WGSN is now a £700 million business, but the early days were somewhat of a rollercoaster experience, with exceptional ups and downs. Despite the pressures and long hours of an internet startup, I cannot recall one argument with Barbara in six years! @material_being @barbkenn @wgsn #trendforecasting #wgsn

Today was one of those soul-filling days.

I met one of the most inspiring women of my life: Barbara Kennington.
She was the very first collaborator at WGSN — the woman who helped Marc and Julian Worth bring the entire vision to life. She built the content team, shaped the strategy, and laid the foundation for what would become the leading trend forecasting platform in the world.

After a decade of leadership, she chose a different rhythm. Moved to Brighton. Slowed down. Our paths crossed a few times — including at my son Maurício’s Bar Mitzvah in Israel — but today was different.

She came all the way from Brighton just to see me. We talked for hours, catching up on life, sharing stories, memories, growth.

When I dropped her off at the station, I pointed at a graffitied tunnel and said, “look how beautiful this is.”
She smiled and said, “you see beauty in that?”

And in that moment, I realized: it was her who taught me to look beyond.
To see what’s coming.
And today, I got to give a little of that back — with my gaze, with my heart.

We are two women shaped by time, connection, and the belief in what’s next.

Thank you, @barbkenn , for lighting my path. You were instrumental in my professional awakening. You introduced me to the world of trend forecasting. You encouraged my voice. Thank you for
being a lighthouse when I needed direction. And for reminding me that vision, at its core, is about learning to see differently. Thank you for opening the door to my future.

Here’s the hunting scene!

This pair an @alexmchallam design. Inspired by the prevalence of hunting scenes in Roman floor mosaics and Medieval tapestries.

The design which runs across both roundels give a nod to the area which as part of Middlesex Forest was once a popular hunting ground for the royalty landowners.

🌴Riviera Moments🌴 I was very honoured to be invited to the re-opening of the Fondation Maeght. The exhibition featured the modernist explosive painter Jean Paul Riopelle, celebrating the 100 years since his birth. The exhibition theme ‘Parfums d’ateliers’ covers his bold bronze statues, tapestries and covers almost all disciplines of visual arts, I concentrated on the oil paintings mostly. Thank you Frederic Hubin for inviting me and to the Maeght family for opening your doors again🌴

Lengthy lunch catchup today. Back in the first dot.com wave, designer @barbkenn took a gamble and joined Marc and Julian Worth to launch @wgsn - the first fashion trend forecasting agency to embrace the digital world. She was Creative & Editorial Director and appointed me Editor-in-Chief (for six rollercoaster years). Now she's back designing (textiles), her work on show with Lucy Goffin at Pond House Exhibition, Isfield, East Sussex, Sept 10 and 11. #fashiontrends #fashionpioneers #pondhousestudio
