Lienna and her art teacher @justinebenzingerdesign worked hard the last few months on clothing designs and her first t shirt ā€œborn to be uniqueā€ is on sale for pre order now.

If I see one more autism mom do this, I’m going to…

CLAP šŸ‘šŸ¼ !

I used to be someone that loved to be social and having a drink or 4 on the weekend was something I looked forward to. And then I had a child diagnosed with severe autism.

Nowadays?

I often don’t want to drink because even one mixed with perimenopause can make me too grumpy to do all the things I need to do to be her Mom.

And I’m not saying drinking is good for you…(and smoking definitely is not) but sometimes I do think about all the things that I enjoyed doing that now feel like they have a cost.

A social outing that requires a lot of ā€œpeoplingā€ can make me tired when the next day I might be woken up at 4am by a 12 year old that needs a snack and a diaper change and won’t go back to sleep.

I weigh every decision through the lens of being her mom.

And I know they say ā€œdon’t lose yourselfā€ā€¦

But the reality is we have to organize ourselves around their needs so much that it’s not about loss it’s about an entire identity shift.

If you live this life, it can be hard to understand.

Which is why I started a space for parents like us.
