Earlier this week, we had the joy of hosting the @baretscholars at Anew. Baret is a global gap year program that takes students across the world to understand our planet and find their purpose.

Their stop in New York brought them to Anew to learn more about our programs from the café, to the community, to the residency program, and the conversations were a highlight of our week. Thank you to the Baret Scholars for spending time with us!

Filmmaking afternoon program with @baretscholars. How New York shapes cinema and how cinema shapes it back. Today we divided into groups of 3, chose an emotion and tried to make a few shots of New York life to express this emotion. Can you guess what was ours? P.S. this is my personal raw edit that doesn’t represent group work and final result.

Smart summer EP 2 and how to travel more productively and mindfully!

Something I picked up both throughout my gap year at @baretscholars and my personal travels is reaching for books by an author from that country or set in the place I am visiting.

Some recommendations:
🇹🇷Turkey - The Bastard of Istanbul - Elif Shafak
🇳🇵Nepal - Forget Kathmandu - Manjushree Thapa
🇹🇼Taiwan - Hunter School - Sakinu Ahronglong
🇧🇷 Brazil - Hour of the star - Clarice Lispector
🇫🇷France - The years - Annie Ernaux

Dots, Lines, and Curves. A Baret Scholars Session 2026.

I would say young minds are the current battlefield that will determine our future as the global community, but there has been and there is enough war. Instead, I will say that among the many things we can mention or speak onto those after us, hope should be one of them. Hope in themselves.

Something I did throughout my gap year with @baretscholars was reaching out to my home country’s embassies whenever we stayed in a capital.

Something that certainly was not on my bingo card was getting invited to three of them - in Nairobi, New Delhi and Beijing. It has truly been a great learning opportunity for someone interested in the field of diplomacy.

So if you’re wondering how you could learn more this summer, here’s something you should consider! Respect the time of those hosting you and it will be a great opportunity to understand the ties of your country with the one you’re visiting during your travels!

“The most meaningful learning experience our students have ever had.” — @baretscholars Group Leader

That’s the feedback that reminds us why we do this. Every program has one goal: send students home changed; more curious, more connected, and more aware of their place in the world.
