I personally think that the bar scene in Germany is still quite underrated. Pinnacle Guide is still not active here. There’s only one bar (Wax on) that made it to that list recently. When I have guests from outside, they’re usually surprised by the vibrant and creative bar scene here, by the creativity and the quality of the drinks. Maybe it’s the lack of ambition? I don’t know. If you’re a 50 best voter, maybe I can use my tiny little reach on instagram to give you some inspiration for truly great bars in Germany. There are probably a few more but I think 8 is a good starting point already.

How classy should it be? Yes! It is hard for me to put Maison Premiere into words. An unbelievably beautiful and bright bar, perfect martinis, an incredible selection of oysters, and an atmosphere that is truly one of a kind. On top of that, it is also the perfect day drinking spot in Brooklyn. One of the top bar destinations in New York, one of my personal favorites and an absolute recommendation from me!

There are a lot of incredible new bar openings in Germany and Austria this year (and probably Switzerland too, but I didn’t visit, sorry). Here are my personal favorites, they all opened their doors for the first time not longer than 12 months ago!

From my first visit shortly after the opening to my most recent one at the start of this week, @ba.nomu has never disappointed me. For me personally, it is one of the best bars in all of Germany, and it is absolutely worth traveling from Berlin to Hamburg just to visit Phoenix, Marta, and Dustin and work your way through the menu.

The drinks have an Asian influence, with ingredients you would also find in Asian cooking, such as sesame, miso, or lemongrass. In terms of flavor, the drinks are in a league of their own, and there is something for every taste, from light no and low ABV options to stronger drinks like the Freezer Martini with olive distillate. The cocktails are often wonderfully complex without ever feeling too overwhelming. Beginners will enjoy this place just as much as true enthusiasts and experienced drinkers.

The interior of the bar is high quality and very well put together. Pleasant lighting, muted colors, plant decor. The service is friendly and professional. They really understand hospitality here. It is a bar that always draws me back and one I almost never skip when I am in Hamburg. From my side, this is an absolute recommendation for anyone who… well, honestly, for everyone, whether they are coming from nearby or from far away!

@truthanddare.bar was kind enough to invite me to visit their bar and try my way through their menu.

The bar is located in the first district of Vienna, in a very quiet side street. The interior is elegant and modern, but still very welcoming and not overly fancy.

The menu includes 16 drinks, 8 of them signature creations and the other eight classics with their own twist, in what they call T&D style. The bar really invites you to stay for a while, the staff is very relaxed and friendly, and the drinks are simply fun and easy to sip.

For me, this is an absolute top recommendation in Vienna.

(And I say this because I truly mean it, not because I was invited by the bar or asked to say so)

I do not know if I would ever have thought of going to Innsbruck if Dunlin Bar had not invited me to get to know their bar better (so thank you for that!)

The city is less than two hours away from Munich by train, and I can say this: the trip is absolutely worth it.

The main focus of the bar is fruit wines and vermouths, all of which are made on site. These wines then serve as the base for the drinks. It is a concept that is almost unique in its kind.

A fantastic bar with incredibly friendly people and truly excellent service.

(I was invited by Dunlin for this trip, but that does not influence my opinion about the bar in any way. In fact, I was not even asked to write this post.)

Prague, Summer 2025. This spontaneous city trip had everything you could wish for as a solo traveler: an almost unexpectedly high number of outstanding bars, entertaining bartenders, world class drinks, great conversations with strangers from other parts of the world, new friendships and fresh tank beer by the river. 10/10, will do again!

Luang Prabang + Bangkok bar & booze archives 🥃🇹🇭🇱🇦

Drinking solo doesn’t mean drinking alone. There’s a certain magic in showing up without a plan and just seeing who you end up meeting. I came for the cocktails and stayed for the random conversations 🥹

To those I met and exchanged convos with—from bartenders to fellow travelers—thank you for sharing your stories with me🥂✨

Quick recap (Part 1) from Barcelona. Wow. This city had everything. From classic bars from the 1930s to creative concepts centered around scent, all the way to modern new openings with rotovaps on display. And even delicious crepes served along with Espresso Martinis!

Barcelona really surprised me in a good way. Not because I had low expectations for the drinks or the bars. It’s just that I was in London right before, which is seen as one of the best bar cities in the world. And while Barcelona doesn’t have the same number of bars, it easily kept up when it came to quality.

Great drinks, creative ideas, top-notch service, and incredibly friendly and chatty people. And the weather was way better too.

¡Gracias, Barcelona!
