We packed the room at Twin Maples for our May meeting.

The topic was mental health, and our speakers Dr. Liz and Karen were vulnerable, honest, informative, and inspirational.

Karen talked about patterns underneath our stress, reactions, and self-sabotage. Dr. Liz talked about burnout and digging out.

We felt their pain and we walked away with practical tools to better cope with any difficult experiences we may have ourselves.

Half a dozen women in the room were at their very first B.I.G. meeting, and they were wowed!

This meeting was so typical of how they go. If you are looking for a group of supportive, smart women, then join us.

Next month we will be running a speed networking event, where you will have an opportunity to chat with and connect with a lot of ladies in a little time.

Around the table today:

A travel agent who designs completely customized itineraries.
A gut health coach who shared how a client’s chronic pain disappeared after changing his diet.
A home organizer getting clear on her ideal client and ready to refresh her website.
A recovery expert looking for speaking opportunities.

This was our February Summit, New Providence, Berkeley Heights pod meeting for BIG: Believe Inspire Grow. As always, we met in the beautiful Twin Maples mansion in Summit.

No speaker this month. Just us. Which felt nice.
We slowed down. We talked about what is actually happening in our businesses. Is it okay to post less on social media? What are you focusing on right now? What do you need?
We also covered “the essentials.”
What eyeliner are you wearing?
Who knows a great landscaper?

This is the magic.

We care about each other’s businesses. We care about each other’s lives. We swap ideas about aging parents, LinkedIn profiles, real estate, relationships. We share our expertise.

Business gets done, but not because anyone is forced to pass leads. It happens because trust builds.

We are a different kind of networking group. We educate, collaborate, and support one another.
Sometimes two women in the room do exactly the same thing. Instead of competing, they partner.

If you like being part of a group of women who genuinely want you to succeed, the March 19 meeting will be a great one to attend. So stop lurking and actually come check it out! The topic will be podcasting. Guests are free in March and there is also a $75 discount on the annual membership.

If you are ready, use code MELANIEW75.
The link to join is in my bio. Be sure to fill it in the section that asked if you have a code.

Hints of raspberry? Beautiful!
Notes of grass? Why not?
Rancid milk? Possibly!

Everyone’s pallet is different, and two people could taste the same chocolate and find different subtle nuances in the flavors and textures.

We had such an amazing time with Nadine Kerstan at our chocolate tasting.

She curated a kit for each of us based on our preferences, and walked us through each one, explaining how to appreciate the smell, the taste, and the feel of fine chocolate.

She was very kind and didn’t scoff at the Nestlé‘s and Ghirardelli baking bits in my pantry, but kindly made clear that there are better, more refined, ethically-sourced choices we could make for our eating and our baking.

Nadine owns Barometer Chocolate, and she is a longtime-judge for international chocolate competitions. Her chocolate tasting packages makes such a wonderful gift for a family, for a corporate outing, or just for a Ladies’ Night Out like we did with these women from the Summit/New Providence/Berkeley Heights B.I.G. pod.

Our next night out will be a Feb. 25 session at Aerial AIR fitness club in New Providence; after that you’ll find us at a Vivid stage improv night on March 11 in Summit. Join our B.I.G pod and connect with amazing women at our monthly morning meetings and our fun special events.

And reach out to Nadine to arrange for your own chocolate tasting, which she can also do online, or just to buy some of her delicious chocolates.

Snowy days call for baking. ❄️🍫

After tasting the most incredible flourless chocolate cake my friend Nadine made at @barometerchocolate, I couldn’t wait to make it myself.

So today felt like the perfect day to bake. And wow… it was rich, fudgy, and absolutely delicious.

Thank you @barometerchocolate for all the chocolate goodness you bring into my life. This cake was pure joy. 🤎

Does this look like your people?

Then step inside a B.I.G. pod meeting where we learn, we laugh, and we connect.

This was the January meeting for the Summit/New Providence/Berkeley Heights area. This month, Vivid Stage artistic director Laura Ekstrand led a workshop on public speaking. We walked away with actionable tips to use right away.

We are a group of women small-business owners who meet monthly to network and support each other. Entrepreneur life can be lonely!

Next meeting: February 26, 10 am in Summit. Comment or DM to learn more about joining.

Two B.I.G. Mamas in attendance!!

If you missed today’s pod meeting on AI, don’t worry. We’ve already rebooked Christina Rava for Part Two of her talk later next year. One session was not enough!

We started by sharing our experiences with AI. Almost everyone in the room was surprisingly savvy-- only one person of the 22 in attendance had zero experience. Christina shared several app ideas for video editing, graphic creation, and copywriting, and encouraged upgrading to paid versions when it makes sense.

My daughter was a guest at the meeting and was surprised at how well-versed the women were. She may have implied it had something to do with many of us being “of a certain age.” Balderdash and poppycock, I say.

The group also shared real examples of what worked and what didn’t. There was the travel agent who got a suggestion to book clients into a hotel room that didn’t exist, and me being quoted a line from a movie that never happened. We also talked about gardening, recipe experiments, and other projects we’ve tried with AI, in addition to presentations, social media copy, and newsletters.

It was a typical at Summit/New Providence/Berkeley Heights pod meeting: we swapped experiences, learned from each other, and walked away with tangible, usable, actionable steps to make our lives better, both professionally and personally.

Next up is our holiday party on December 5. it’s a white elephant gift exchange with a potluck dinner and networking. Let me know if you would like to attend After that, we’ll roll into the new year with public speaking in January and podcasting in February, with two terrific guest speakers lined up.

Of course, by then we’ll have two new little girls as our latest pod members!!
