Let Me Eat Cake: No Regrets opens this Saturday, and it's part of something bigger, Under One Roof, a new boutique art fair at Coastline Art Gallery bringing together 10 Southern California galleries and art spaces all showing at once, under one roof, exactly like the name says.

Joining Shoebox in this one: Thinkspace Projects, SCAPE, Skidmore Contemporary Art, John Doe Gallery, M. Hanks Gallery, Royale Projects, 515 Bendix, Chemers Gallery, and Sue Greenwood Fine Arts.

What makes this kind of fair genuinely great is that these are spaces that don't usually get to occupy the same room. Commercial galleries, nonprofits, artist run spaces, all sharing one space instead of competing for the same collectors across ten different openings on ten different nights. You get to walk through a huge cross section of what Southern California's art scene actually looks like right now, all in one visit.

This round of Let Me Eat Cake comes out of my own history with an eating disorder, how food becomes comfort and control and celebration and shame, sometimes all in the same bite. Come see it alongside everyone else showing.

Coastline Art Gallery
1515 Monrovia Avenue, Newport Beach.
Gallery hours Wednesday-Friday, 11am-4pm, or by appointment.

Official reception Saturday, September 19, 4-7pm, VIP preview at 4pm.

I forgot to take a picture of the Tardis blue pencil sharpener! Or a selfie lol.

I had a really great time.

Work is pouring in for Let Me Eat Cake: No Regrets and my studio is turning into a full blown cake factory. Bins full of wrapped panels, cupcake props waiting their turn, and that purple candy explosion piece peeking out (be right back, we need to talk about that one).

Opening at Coastline Art Gallery in just a few days and I genuinely cannot wait to install this. It's part of Under One Roof, a new boutique art fair bringing 10 Southern California galleries together in one space, something Newport Beach hasn't really seen done quite like this before.

Living with art - episode 3 - my guest room
(Perfect thing to share on a day I’m too sick to work)
Our guest room downstairs has much of our collection of small works from many different artists.

I’ve tagged everyone.
Pic 1: a quilt by me that tells an important story in our family - the pillow on the left isade @byraquelolivo - the one on the right is one of many I made for the family from my brother in law’s clothes (also half glimpses of a painting I made in college and a photo of a billboard I took in Hollywood many years ago)
Pic 2: art wall - artists tagged where I can
Pic 3: (counterclockwise from left) a weaving I was gifted while teaching in Moldova, an etching made by my son Logan that’s reminiscent of Jay’s work on Westworld, a ceramic tile I bought in Orvieto made by a friend @heidihornbacher introduced me to. And pieces I’ve bought from @someguy.is @taylorstoneman_art and @mjbensonartist along with a few small paintings of my own
Pic 4: clockwise from top left.
Dragonfly painted and stitched by @claircase - tiny swirly 3D painting by @kimeradazann, next to a print by @annembray.art
Tree print by @barriegoshko above a mini quilt by @barbdanzi
Bottom pieces - painting by @adeolastudio_art next to a wood print by @scottthepainter both under a print by @kategreenart
Lowest left corner is a collage I made under a painting by @taylorstoneman_art
Abstract horizon painting by @mjbensonartist and the painting in the center is by my bestie @tifaniewhite
Pic 5: took a photo of a @morleyartist piece in the wild and framed it
