🌊 RUN WEST WEATHER UPDATE 🌊

We’re keeping a close eye on the weather and conditions along the route ahead of race weekend.

The safety of our runners, volunteers, crew and communities comes first. Depending on how conditions develop, we may need to adjust the race.

We’ll be monitoring things closely and will make announcements accordingly.

Please keep an eye on our social channels for an official update.

For now, there’s nothing you need to do. We’ll keep you posted as soon as we know more. 🌊

A New Light' is a short insight into the emotional journey over the past 5 years behind NEST Environmental Education. The inspiration, the people, and the West Coast landscape that helped shape the vision.

The journey inspired by local activists Suzanne du Plessis and Peter Owies, whose work and commitment to the West Coast helped shape the thinking behind what NEST has become.

From those early inspirations to building NEST into a meaningful environmental education curriculum for rural West Coast communities, this is a glimpse into where it all came from and why it matters.

And none of this happens alone. A genuine thank you to every partner who believes in what we're trying to build, and every runner and member of our community who continues to support Run West. Your support gives these ideas the opportunity to grow into something real and lasting with true outcomes.

NEST began its first year of environmental education in Doringbaai in March 2026, founded by and operating under Run West.

This is the story behind the story.

-RUN WEST ORIGINS-
CHAPTER 6.0
Melkbosstrand to Cape Point Lighthouse

The Final Chapter.
The Beginning.
Roughly 110km.
One big weekend.

And one final stretch of coastline.

By the time we reached Melkbosstrand, this journey looked very different to where it had begun. The landscapes had changed, the kilometres had added up, and somehow, the group just kept growing.

People from the original chapters returned. New faces joined. Old friends, new friends, runners, walkers and cyclists: a bunch of good people who had, somewhere along the way, become part of the journey.

And then, after all those kilometres, we reached the lighthouse.

It was a pretty emotional moment.

Standing there, looking back at what had started as a simple idea to run the West Coast, it was hard to believe how much had happened along the way.

We didn't really know it at the time, but those runs were starting to light a few different fires in our lives.

One of them became Run West.
Another became NEST.

And there were so many other ideas, friendships, projects and possibilities that came from simply putting one foot in front of the other and seeing where the journey took us.

So while this was the final chapter of the original journey, it never really felt like an ending.
If anything, it felt like the beginning.

Looking back now, we're incredibly grateful to everyone who shared even a small part of it with us: every kilometre, every conversation, every campfire, every laugh and every unexpected turn along the way.

This journey shaped far more than we could have imagined.

What a journey.
And now, onto the next adventure.

Every chapter tells a story. This was ours.

I have had the privilege of having my work up at the @vineyard_hotel for the past 3 months. Always a beautiful feeling watching my work bring colour to a space. I had some portraits shot of myself in front of my biggest canvases painted to date which are up at the hotel. If you have sometime the work will be up for another 2 weeks. GOD IS GOOD. 🧿🤲🏾

That’s a wrap on the Ballo x Run West Run Club.
Four runs, plenty of kilometres, a lot of coffee and pastries, and somehow you guys kept showing up even when the Cape Town weather was doing its thing.

Thanks to everyone who came out, ran with us, hung around afterwards and made these mornings what they were. We’ve really enjoyed having you along.
And you clearly like the Ballo x Run West merch. It’s been moving quickly enough that we might just have to get a rerun going to make sure there’s enough for race weekend.

Which is pretty darn cool.

If you haven’t got yours yet, you can grab a tee online from the Ballo store, pop into their store at Longkloof or pick one up at registration over race weekend.

We’re now getting through the final preparations before we head up the coast for the weekend we’ve all been counting down to for so long.
It’s getting very real now.

See you all on 26 September.

RUN WEST 2026.
