All aboard Barter Boat!!! 🚢 Coming to Springfield, MO May 1st!
Follow along + get dock access: Instagram @barter_boat
Barter Boat is a traveling, collaborative art installation by Anna Elliott, Desireé Moore, and Robin Schwartzman, with an ever-growing crew of sailors. At each stop, we set up our “boat” and trade objects + stories with the public—no money, just meaning, memory, and material culture in motion.
Come find them on the route, bring something odd, beloved, or overlooked, and help them set sail into the next exchange. Whether you have a small trinket or a legendary Route 66 story, they want to hear from you! All hands on deck!
Central Park Square, May 1st, 1pm-6pm

GETAWAY ⛰️🌳 Our first SMUSH Getaway was puuuuurfection. Three days of wonderful people, beautiful landscapes, excellent meals, and more art than you can shake a stick at. 🥂 Cheers to our beloved travel companions for making it such a dreamy time as we traveled the upstate roads to experience the @wassaicproject , Millbrook, NY, and our guesthouse in nearby Millerton. From breakfast on the deck to deep listening at studio visits to taking over (in a nice way!) the stamp making workshop, it was a remarkable and very beautiful time.

@wassaicproject was a dream. There is something to be said for spaciousness and play and sticker charts and ponds and pancakes for dinner, built around a shared love and commitment to the work that we do. Big love to this group of generous artists and friends. Thank you to the @wassaicproject for cultivating a community built on care and curiosity, and to all the folks that journeyed through Wassaic to make our time there so special.

Another magical weekend in the Catskill Mountains of New York for the Borscht Belt Fest hosted by the Borscht Belt Museum (@borschtbeltmuseum). This year, I got to bring the Barter Boat (@barter_boat), a collaborative, interactive installation I’ve been doing with Anna Abhau Elliott and Desiree Moore for the last 9 years. BB in the BB! Thanks to all my old and new friends for the wonderful memories. ❤️🥣

Barter Boat (@barter_boat) is a traveling art installation in the shape of a boat where people can barter objects that hold meaning beyond financial value for treasures. Robin Schwartzman (@robinschwartzman), Desireé Moore (@sugalicker), and Anna Elliott (@alaneatonhalibutwill) are the creators and will be docking Barter Boat next Saturday 7/19 on the Gridley Chapel lawn from 12-5PM as part of @upstateartweekend!

You can barter anything that doesn’t rot. Barter Boat has received things like lucky rocks, original drawings, sentimental keepsakes, and special one-offs, like a foam cube that was supposed to be a pillow for a small lizard (lizard didn’t like it). Robin, Desireé, and Anna treasure the chance to see what, beyond money, makes something valuable. We hope you can join us for this special pop-up in Wassaic.

Meet Barter Boat, a whimsical and thought-provoking interactive art installation setting sail for Borscht Belt Fest 2025! Join us July 26–27 for a weekend of culture, comedy, and connection in the heart of the Catskills.

Trade a small object with our artists, hear a story, share a story, and walk away with a one-of-a-kind treasure. No cash needed, just curiosity, creativity, and connection.

Started in Minneapolis in 2016, Barter Boat has traveled to over ten states, sparking joy, storytelling, and reflection on what we truly value. We’re thrilled to welcome them to Ellenville this summer for a totally unique experience in art, play, and community.

It’s been two whole weeks since we were well met at @blinkcincinnati.

We loved getting to see folks from our first visit, make new friends in Covington, and learn about what you treasure. 🥰⚓️⛴️ Anna’s hand holds out a well-worn blue and white keychain that says “Skyline Chili.”
