In our September issue, we examine a shift toward restaurants with more personal points of view and a greater appetite for taking chances. The Bohemian was an early catalyst in the latest wave, opening in downtown Bonita Springs in 2022 and fueling the neighborhood’s renaissance with Florida-driven cooking and a sumptuous, maximalist setting.

June Dispongsa and Somi Vasitorn don’t soften the Thai cooking they grew up with for American tastes. Across four Naples restaurants, they delve into different Asian traditions, from regional Thai at Tong Yin and Japanese seafood at Mimoto to sandos at Sendo de Café and East and Southeast Asian street food at Ichi Togarashi.

Bob Boye ran the 200-seat Cru, a standard-bearer for creative cooking in Fort Myers through the 2010s. With @eat_liberty, he distilled that experimental spirit into an intimate open kitchen and a menu with no interest in playing it safe.

Before Andy Hyde opened Hyde N Chic in 2019, friends told him this wasn’t the place for the story-driven tasting menus he proposed. He stayed the course—and helped cultivate an audience for the adventurous restaurants that followed in Naples.

Kayla Pfeiffer has become one of the movement’s biggest accelerators, using Bicyclette and now Heyday to connect local diners with global ideas and bring Southwest Florida into a wider culinary conversation. A Chopped champion and 2025 James Beard Emerging Chef semifinalist, she’s also made Heyday a platform for visiting chefs and collaborations with local makers.

Jeff & Kate’s birthday celebration was nothing short of ICONIC! 🥂✨

We kicked things off at Bar Tulia on Fifth, where we danced, laughed, and let our fun sides out—all while enjoying an open bar courtesy of the birthday couple! 🍸

From there, we headed to Ocean Prime for an incredible dinner and more celebrations before ending the night at BURN with bottle service, cigars, and dancing the night away.

What a spectacular way to celebrate two amazing people. So grateful to have been part of such a fun, unforgettable evening. Happy Birthday, Jeff & Kate! ❤️🎉

When you head to Bar Tulia Mercato hoping to order your favorite dish from Bar Tulia on 5th Ave—the legendary Beef Carpaccio—but realize it’s not on the menu… and then Chef Vincenzo personally steps into the kitchen to make it just for you. 🤯👏

This is exactly why the Tulia restaurants are in a league of their own.

Yes, the food is absolutely incredible, but what truly sets them apart is the genuine hospitality and passion from Chef Vincenzo, Marcello, and the entire team. You can feel the care they put into every dish, every guest experience, and everything they do for our community.

A huge thank you to Chef Vincenzo for taking the time to personally prepare this amazing Beef Carpaccio for Erin and me. It wasn’t just a great meal—it was an unforgettable experience.

And I’m not exaggerating when I say this… it was arguably the greatest dish I’ve ever eaten.

Thank you for always going above and beyond. That’s the difference between serving food and creating lifelong memories. ❤️🍽️
