Goodbye 2024..

This past year was one of the hardest but yet most beautiful times in my life. It’s astonishing how many experiences and memories can be made in just one year. Incredibly thankful to everyone who has been by my side and excited to see what 2025 brings 🍾🤍

*I can only tag 20 people. If you’re not here, I still love you 💋

Semester 3, done.

This year has been one of the best and worst times of my life. Through navigation friendships, falling in love, to solidifying/rationalizing my own experiences and existence in this space. Thank you for all of the memories, I will cherish and look back on these times to give me strength in this next chapter of my life. I will always love and admire each one of you. Here’s to new beginnings 🥂 I’m just getting started.

And this one is very special. This was supposed to just be a staged reading. But instead it was literally the first show I did on stage in 2 years. I’ve made some of the best friendships I’ve ever had with this show. And it’s easily one of my favorites I’ve done in my career.

Friends are some of the best people to help you:

1) renovate your properties
2) elevate your goals
3) stay on a budget
4) create the best memories doing it

Surround yourself with people that will elevate you!!! Grateful for these people as well as some who are not pictured 🔝🙏🏻

Paranoia, depressive episodes, sensitivity, anger, high highs, low lows… I used to think I was selfish, disgusting, and careless going through that all. However, I was and still am struggling through something that isn’t all my fault, something that less than 5% of people in the UK/US are diagnosed with.

My Borderline personality disorder is mostly trauma-based, stemming from horrible friend groups and family trauma. Which hurt me even more, knowing that I’d hurt the people that were the closest to me if they knew.

But see- I was always the “Happy go lucky/goody two shoes” girl. Nobody knew about the demons I was fighting because I hid them so well. And I still do. I love being the cheerful girl, but just because someone is smiling doesn’t mean they are not struggling.

I have spent nights burning, cutting, scratching myself to numb away the actual pain. I thought I was useless and crazy. I would participate in rebellious and risky situations to feel a thrill, anything other than sadness and anger. Although I don't self-harm in those ways anymore, I still self-harm: my perfectionism, paranoia, and the need to keep myself busy all the time is what I do to try to cope.

There is no real cure to any of this, and every day is a constant battle; I am ironically writing this after yet another depressive episode triggered by family problems. But I am patient, forgiving, and honest with myself. It will be okay.

I have gotten better after years of therapy and learning more about what works for me (like putting my emotions into my artistry, advocating for mental health awareness, and surrounding myself with inspiring, motivating people).

It is so important not to blame yourself while still taking ownership of what you CAN change. I’m grateful to now have people around me who don’t judge and take the time, to be honest, yet encouraging and loving.

Learning ways to love yourself, and being around those that show you you’re loved, makes it so much easier.

Thank you so much for your honesty and bravery. 🙏🏼

I am the daughter of Turkish immigrants. I love my cultural background and genuinely am blessed; however, being a first-generation American, I have struggled and watched the American dream turn into the American nightmare.

I started working at my parent’s small-town pizza shop very young, getting customers and wiping tables at 12 years old- already learning work ethic and discipline. I got bullied like any other typical middle or high schooler- but with a bit more spice to it from having a family restaurant: throwing remarks about the taste of the food, the service etc. My parents have had surgeries and medical problems because of working like robots for almost 30 years. The stress was too much for their mental health.

My family lived on the Turkish side of Bulgaria- during communism. They have stories of running away from Communists, living with very little money and shelter, getting their names changed and dealing with more prejudice and discrimination just because they were Turkish/Muslim.

I was raised Muslim, but I have become more agnostic because of my exposure to Bulgarian culture. Growing up during the time of 9/11 also affected my relationship with my religion; my parents taught me to never talk about my faith to others, just in case people accused me of terrorism. As a result, I never wore a hijab, and even my practising grandmother would keep her hijab off when she’d visit us in Pennsylvania.

I had a severe identity crisis because of the cultural stigmas:
* I have to be a lawyer or doctor. My creativity is foolish.
* I am a woman, so I have to behave, be quiet, listen to the man.
* Unless I am bleeding, I am fine. Mental illness doesn’t exist. Suck it up. This one was the worst.

I hope someone reads this and feels less alone, and stops feeling ‘wrong’ or ‘abnormal’ like I once did. 💚

You are not alone. We all go through struggles. So many of my problems were not my fault, but they are my responsibility, and I’m still learning how to deal with them one day at a time.
