Congratulations to @baskids for the Honorary - The Hype Community Award!✨

BasKids Foundation has shown over a decade of exemplary service and commitment to helping kids in underrepresented areas with education and reading.

The mission of The BasKIDS Project is to grow a generation of readers by providing reading materials, promoting literacy and encouraging positive social engagement in our community.

We hope to curve the achievement gap for low-income youth through providing reading materials for the home. We collect donations from our community and create baskets especially crafted for children, and donate them to shelters, hospitals and underfunded educational programs in the D.C., Maryland and Virginia area. We give the themed baskets filled with books and educational materials to encourage reading activity outside of school.

We believe that leadership starts with knowledge, and the best way to gain knowledge is to READ. We invest in our community so that we can grow a generation of readers.

Learn more about their initiatives on baskids.org.

📚International Literacy Day at MKK turned into International Literacy WEEK—because one day just wasn’t enough! 💟

We kicked things off with our amazing partners @Baskids 📚, dove into daily reading challenges (20+ minutes a day!), sight word fun, storytelling magic, and art integration—like painting characters straight from the stories we read. 🎨

And the best part? Princess Tiana will be joining the celebration soon!

At Margie’s Kids Kare, reading isn’t just learning—it’s JOY, imagination, and empowerment. 💕

In celebration of #NationalIceCreamDay, our friends at @baskids read @petethecatofficial Screams for Ice Cream to our summer campers, which inspired arts and craft projects to make kinetic sand ice cream cones!

Thank you @baskids for joining us and exploring sensory activities here in the Owls’ Nest. 🦉🍦

Pressed & blessed! Being invited to present at Bladensburg Elementary’s 2025 Career Day on behalf of The @baskids Foundation was a true honor.

As Co-Founder & President, I had the joy of sharing our mission to Grow a Generation of Readers, talking about my role, and reminding scholars that knowing how to read can open endless doors for their futures.

We read Pete the Cat for President, had a fun reading and comprehension discussion, and talked about what they would do if they were school president. The kids were locked in and they even colored their own Vote for Pete buttons.

And YES I gave out books. There’s no better feeling than seeing young scholars smiling, engaged, and holding stories they’re excited to explore.

I’m so proud of the work BasKIDS is doing.

Thank you Bladensburg Elementary for having us!

✨Many thanks to @baskids for hosting a great event celebrating the power of reading in partnership with @bunkerhillesdc and @readingpartnersdc
An author from each state was selected and I’m so appreciative to have been selected as the Maryland-based author and to have Kindness is Cool as the featured literacy and skill-building book with the goal being to inspire kids to embrace kindness and the joy of reading😊📚

Be sure to check out @baskids which is a wonderful organization providing reading materials, promoting literacy and encouraging positive social engagement in the DMV community!
