A food-secure future starts with what we do today.

This World Food Day, we recognise that building a sustainable food system requires intentional investment in the people who make it possible.

At BATNF, we invest in young agripreneurs and support smallholder farmers through our various thematic pillars, helping to strengthen agricultural livelihoods and contribute to a more food-secure future.

As we reflect on this year’s theme, “Innovate Today to Nourish Tomorrow,” we remain committed to supporting initiatives that create opportunities in agriculture and contribute to food security.

Happy World Food Day 2026.

When women have the resources to grow, they have more opportunities to strengthen their livelihoods.

As part of our Empower Her Project, BATNF provided 200 women with 200 Noiler birds each, multivitamins and a bag of feed to support their poultry farming activities.

On International Day of Rural Women, we recognise the contributions of rural women and the importance of investing in opportunities that support their economic participation and livelihood development.

Freebies, market access, exposure, and valuable connections. What more should you expect from the Eko Farm Fair?

Mr. Oludare Odusanya, General Manager of BATN Foundation, gave us insight into what visitors, farmers, entrepreneurs, and agribusiness stakeholders can look forward to at this year’s Eko Farm Fair.

From exciting freebies at the BATN Foundation stand, with different criteria for winning, to opportunities to discover products at potentially more affordable prices, the fair promises more than just an exhibition.

According to Mr. Odusanya, exposure, market opportunities, and connections are central to the experience.

For farmers and agribusiness owners, this is an opportunity to showcase their products, meet potential customers, build relationships, and explore possibilities beyond their immediate markets.

And for buyers and visitors? It’s a chance to discover agricultural products, interact with producers, and experience the value of bringing the market closer to the people who need it.

Because sometimes, the next big opportunity for your business begins with showing up in the right place.

Farmers, especially poultry farmers, this invitation is for you!

During yesterday’s walk commemorating World Food Day, we caught up with the General Manager of the British American Tobacco Nigeria Foundation (BATNF), who shared the Foundation’s commitment to supporting farmers and strengthening Nigeria’s agricultural sector.

He extended an open invitation to farmers, agribusiness stakeholders and the general public to join the World Food Day Grand Finale on October 16 at the Police College, Ikeja, Lagos.

And there is something special for poultry farmers! 🎉

@batnfoundation will be giving out three-tier poultry cages, particularly benefiting farmers engaged in layer production.

As the General Manager emphasised, the Foundation’s support goes beyond poultry farming. Its commitment to agriculture embraces farmers across different value chains.

This is another reason to be part of this year’s celebration. Come connect, explore opportunities, showcase your work and celebrate the people who keep our food systems moving.

📍 Venue: Police College, Ikeja, Lagos
📅 Date: October 16, 2026

A farmer’s reward should not end at harvest. It should begin with access to the market.

In Episode 2 of the Food Systems Dialogue, we sat with BATN Foundation to unpack one of the most important parts of the agricultural value chain: market access.

We explored the Eko Farm Fair and why connecting farmers directly to markets should be treated as a priority, not an afterthought.

For BATN Foundation, production and marketing cannot be separated. Farmers can produce more, improve quality and increase productivity, but without a reliable market, the value of that effort is limited.

We also looked beyond the immediate sales at the Eko Farm Fair, discussing its long-term potential to create stronger farmer-market linkages, build relationships, open opportunities and contribute to a more sustainable food system.

Because the real question is not only:
“How much can farmers produce?”

It is also:
“Who is ready to buy what they produce?”

🎙️ THE FOOD SYSTEMS DIALOGUE | EKO FARM FAIR

What makes the Eko Farm Fair more than just an annual agricultural event?

In this episode of The Food Systems Dialogue, we sat down with a representative of BATN Foundation to unpack the story behind the Eko Farm Fair, why it was created, and the impact it continues to make across Lagos’ agricultural ecosystem.

From creating market access for farmers to connecting producers with consumers, promoting local food, encouraging value addition, and strengthening partnerships across the food system, the Fair has continued to evolve beyond a celebration of agriculture.

And perhaps the most important question is: How do you build an agricultural initiative that doesn’t just create impact once, but continues to create impact year after year?

🎥 Listen to the conversation and hear directly from BATN Foundation on the purpose, impact, and future of the Eko Farm Fair.

This is The Food Systems Dialogue where we don’t just ask questions; we unpack the systems behind the food we eat.

CAN AGRICULTURAL WASTE BECOME ANOTHER BUSINESS?
We believe it can. 🌱
We're exploring how discarded snail shells can be collected, processed and converted into a useful calcium product — creating another potential income stream while reducing waste.
From our farm to your table… and from what was once discarded to something valuable. 🐌🌱
👇 What do you think — should more farmers start looking at snail shells as a resource instead of waste?

Picture excerpts from the flag-off of our 22,000-tree afforestation project in Kano and Jigawa States.

We were pleased to officially commence this initiative alongside Alhaji Nasiru Wada, Magajin Garin Kano, and Ruth Owojaiye, Board Director, BATN Foundation, who commissioned the flag-off.

Implemented in partnership with the Federal College of Agricultural Produce Technology (FCAPT) and Ahalson General Enterprises Ltd, the project is focused on combating desertification, restoring degraded landscapes, improving biodiversity and strengthening the resilience of rural communities to climate change.

With additional support from FCAPT and the Kano State Ministry of Environment, the initiative will see seedlings distributed across several Local Government Areas in Kano and Jigawa States, with community members playing an important role in planting, nurturing and protecting the trees.

For us, this is more than planting trees. It is about restoring our environment, strengthening rural livelihoods and contributing to a more sustainable future for our communities.

Stay tuned as we share more highlights and moments from the event.
